Default HG offer a rsync/ftp/ssh backup solution for VPS and dedicated server

Hi,

They are a few thread on HG's forums about what we are using as an HG customer to backup our VPS and dedicated server.

Many use bqbackup.com or other 3rd party provider and so on. Dedicated server user can use r1soft and if you are a geek like me, you have your own mini data center in your house to do backup.

Some don't even have or do a backup!

Pleaseo vote if you would use a backup system created and manage by HostGator. GatorDaveC talk about it breifly on the following post.

I would really be interested in this service if it was offered by HG.

Main reason would be the following:
- they have access to both my server and the backup server (root on both)
- they could just automate backup or recovery by creating a custom WHM addon or control panel
- I would not have to deal with 2 different companies when it comes to restoring which can be a pain. Just one place and everything would go way more smoothly.
- 1 invoice at 1 company
- Would cost me less for my data transfer overcharged on my high speed Internet bill

Let me know what you think and share ideas!

Let's vote!

Just a quick question for users of bqbackup:

Does anyone already tried to restore from that backup solution? If yes, did the process was successful?

I've restored an entire servers from bqbackups a couple of times at a company I worked for before HostGator.

I was also able to restore files from bqbackup but it was a pain as I completely forgot to make sure I was able and knew which ssh command to use!

I like to be on the edge but this indeed turn into a high stress situation.

Testing: So it works as expected

I'm sure if we had an offering, we would have a supported uniform backup script, that would allow us to do a full system restore pretty easily for our clients.

If we had to do a full system restore for a client, the fee would probably pretty low if it was uniform.
