Gents/Ms;
Not a HG guy yet, but I may be heading this way. I have been armwrestling with GoDaddy over trying to get a Kickstart/JoomlaPack install going on the hosting site. I have a fully-developed Joomla site which I worked up on Xampp on Windows--I archived it on Joomlapack and have tried this on GoDaddy five times and still wandering loose in the land of php.ini As far as I can tell, none of them could spell Joomla much less offer any helpful suggestions on session path errors; could not find database errors; do not have permission to access that file errors and more over the last week, including .htaccess, where that is and no, you have no access to that either. Long story short, do you folks have experience and expertise in kickstart/JoomlaPack? And maybe some interest in helping a soon to be ex-GoDaddy refugee out of the Salt Mine? --Saltminer |

Well, I would assume all you would need to do is upload via FTP the files in yor www directory in XAMPP (compress them then unzip them in the server to avoid errors) and make a database in Mysql upload the old database, and edit the cnfig file to point to your new database file
long storey short: come to hg, manually move the databases that's what I did and I'm so glad I did. (I've never heard of joomlapack, but have worked alot with joomla) |

A couple of thoughts on your question. Do keep in mind that this forum is a peer support forum. While staff does check in fairly regularly most of the support here is through other users willing to help out.
As for HG support, they really cannot provide support for applications, only the webhosting. That said, I have found support very responsive and willing to help figure out errors such as the ones you describe. In searching the forum for joomlapack there are several threads mentioning it so there are users that are familiar with it and it has been used to move accounts to an HG server by other users. That is not to say there will be no problems since errors can crop up due to different specs on your test setup and HG's servers. I would say that you would probably be able to get things working here and that users on the forum would be willing to help. It just takes some patience sometimes but most problems get resolved. |

I have transferred all of my Joomla sites over to HG using JoomPack/kickstart. Everything went flawlessly.

We been using Joomla with our company for a long time and it's really awesome. As what they said here, Joomla is the best.

Actually, nobody in this thread said anything like that, just that JoomlaPack works to get Joomla installations moved to HG.

I have several Joomla sites at GoDaddy. I haven't tried the auto installers like joomlapack, but always ftp stuff over then manually configure everything. There are some quirks with GoDaddy that I can see might mess up the auto installs.
First off is they use distributed database servers, so your database path is NOT localhost as it is in most installs. I noticed you mentioned .htaccess. Many people get frustrated with Godaddy and htaccess because it is not that widely known that on their infrastructure, if there is no htaccess file, you must put one there, and then it will be about 1 hour before it is effective. Now once that initial seeding time is complete, any further changes to htaccess are immediate. Just as HG cannot actually support the applications on its hosting platform, neither can GD.

Good evening all!
I've been a HG customer for 5 years. I'm trying to move a website using joompack/kickstart, but I got some errors. I know someone replied saying they were able to move a joomla site using kickstart, but has anyone else been able to do this? if so, when you had technical issues, was HG support helpful or you had to figure this out by yourself? Thanks! |
