Default HG to become Domain Registrar?

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I was wondering if the rumors are true about HostGator becoming a domain registrar too?

Cheers!

Yup. They're reportedly very close to rolling it out for public consumption.

Excellent, I think I'll be moving all my domains over - having a bad experience with a UK registrar.

I will definitely use HG domain registration when it is available.

I don't know how long it might be before they can handle non-U.S. domains, if ever (a lot of countried handle all registrations of their own domains). Here's the current list: http://forums.hostgator.com/showpost...67&postcount=7

It will still be several weeks (at least) before they're even set up as a basic registrar service. As for non-global domains, Drew said that CIRA (.ca) would be "first on the chopping block" after .us, and I'm holding him to that promise so that I can put all my domains together in one place.

I would imagine .ca would be next and I guess they then have to get onto European stuff. Nominet?

I'm testing new domain registrations on our registrar for shared packages today. We've got a few things we want to finalize, such as in-bound domain name transfers. They are mostly billing related decisions. Technically speaking we are pretty much ready to roll.

Apparently, they're ready to roll in a vehicle that can do 0-60mph in about a month.

Since my comment, it was decided to make a new fancy customer portal, which will contain the functionality to manage domains (different than the one we already made for people on our Registrar currently).

So... we are working on it.

Sorry

Technically speaking, we've registered thousands of domains for customers on our Registrar though.

So it will be a different panel again to manage domain names.. Instead of using gbclient which does not even have the SSL we bougth from HG in it and still open the chat window in the same window!!

geez... who's the project manager!

Heh heh. As I said the other day, seems like somebody has been taking inter-systems automation and coodination lessons from cPanel.

I think GatorDrew (see above) was handling at least some parts of it (along with some gbclient system "improvements" that never yet materialized) but he has been strangely silent for several weeks now.

I'm waiting to see about the registration pricing. The sample screens are showing price for .com as 9.95 which isn't that great. The deal-breaker is that the .org tld is showing as 19.95. More than half of the 32 domains I'm hosting are .org and 20 bucks simply won't fly.
Anyone know whether the sample screens have any basis?
Thanks
