Default Hemi :: Scheduled FSCK

Good day all,

Hemi will be coming down tonight at 3am for a filesystem check. We do apologize for the inconvenience, however this is necessary for the integrity of the RAID.

Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks.

Any chance / hope / plan of getting this alerts via email & a bit earlier!!

I mean today exactly @ the time of the scheduled fsck (11am local time), I was at a potential client-to-be & I opened my site to show them my work/map to my office n BANG!! "under maintenance" showed up. I was shocked & it felt very bad in front of the client-to-be that my site is "under maintenance" and I don't know about it! it sucked... literally!!

How do you expect a client to trust me to host his site, if I don't know when / why my site is under maintenance, this is not good @ all for my business & yours too HG.

If I knew about it, I would have told him that we might be down, but lets give it a try or postpone the meeting!! And believe me things would have looked way better, way way way better....

And still I don't understand why you do not send these alerts, beforehand, via email at least to the resellers!! If a huge hosting company will not be able to send alert-email... then who will?!!

Thanks Jacob,

First let me thank you all for taking care of the server & doing the maintenance, special thanks to you for taking the time & replying.

But that wouldn't have solved my problem at all.

For RSS to have been useful, it should have been posted way earlier than it did so I could have checked it with my emails from outlook, specailly that this was a schedualed maintenance.

The thread was posted @ 2am local time! the meeting I had was @ 11am & another one before that... I didn't come to the office to check email (rss) via Outlook, but did so in the morning via the web where the rss will not show, IF the alert was sent via email I would have seen it in the inbox. Still 9hr notice is way too short for resellers, specially that we are on different time zones.

I totally understand that today's case was a once in a lifetime coincidence, or bad luck... but sending alerts via email should be implemented & there is no logical reason that HG does not do so (specially for resellers).

The cause of not sending emails & using RSS is totally illogical

(thread you linked to)
How many resellers are there on a server? 100? 500?? how much time it should take to send 500 emails? a shared cpanel can do it, without breaking the TOS, in 1hr & 1 min!! I'll let you calculate how much time it should get for HG to do so.

It would look way better (in term of customer service & relation) for us, the resellers, & in turn to HG, if we get these notices in advance ( there has been a lot of complains/suggestions about this in a dozen of threads)

For example, IF I got an email / RSS from HG lets say 48 hrs beforehand, I would have emailed / SMSed my clients & told them that because of a maintenance the sites will down, I'm pretty sure that they would understand & appreciate the afford, other than finding it out themselves & calling me to complain about their sites being down or email not working......

sorry for the long "rant"
Thanks for taking the time & reading.
