There's a huge outbreak of a virus today. If you're suddenly not able to send out mail your computer has this viruss and are server is blocking you from sending.
Every hour the block should be lifted and only put back in place if you spam again. "A new, potentially dangerous virus has been detected in the wild this morning, with widespread infections. The W32.Sober.O@mm is a mass-mailing worm that sends itself as an email attachment to addresses gathered from the compromised computer."

I checked my email and sure enough, Avast (you posted about it
) had a popup letting me know it was detected. I didn't even know the email address it came from. Thanks for telling me about Avast, .Evan |

Thank you for letting us know about this. I have seen quite a few spam messages coming in with .zip attachments that are obviously viruses. I was not aware that this is a new virus though.

For myself I would rather have a blanket mail sent out warning of such matters. Mail has been up and down for 3 days now with my account. 1 customer could not connect for 10 days with theirs. I have both avast and Sygate running and neither are picking this virus up.
I need to send bills via mail and am having a heck of a time of late. I think I will invest in the third party mail because this is just so frustrating. Sorry to put a damper on the euphoria. Chipfryer |

Hey everybody...
I'm wondering now if people unaffected by the virus directly may still be having mail problems from time to time... I couldn't connect to my IMAP accounts via OE, so I tried to log into web mail, but that didn't work either. I figure that by using web mail, it wouldn't matter if I had an infected computer, the web mail wouldn't know or care...but since it didn't work either, I figured there might be a bigger problem. So after reading abou this, and double checking everything, and trying all the web mail options, eventually after about 15 minutes, I was suddenly able to access web mail. So then I tried OE again, and all my IMAP accounts checked out fine. AFAIK, I don't have the virus, but have seen a lot of emails come through my alternate email addys w/ those zip attachments, but have immediately deleted them all. Can you confirm that you may have problems using mail due to server issues as a result of dealing w/ the other computers that do have the virus? Thanks, Karz |
