Dear hostgator forum viewer,
I am really angry at the person how owns *****.com now. The domain is forward to her personal msn space and when I ask to buy it from her she told me $25,000 Cnd. It worth nothing but the price she has paid for since 2000. so $30 X 6 year. She thinks that we are Microsoft and will give her that amount...not really. I think I will get my client company to make a trademark that is call emaritimes and she will possibly or will have to let the domain to us because of trademark..is it possible??? She think that we will buy it, no way. She reads to much forum when it says sold for $25,000... emaritimes doesn"t mean nothing also. I need to get a firm to get this domain name...let's call the laywer

Are you kidding me? LOL! Is it really worth thousands of dollars in lawyer fees and trade name registration fees?

They can really invest in something but not it this type of situation when the domain name we need is doing nothing at all. Their should be law for this type of selling and buying domain names. Like the biggest fees you can have for a domain name is like 5000$ if it is for a company and the domain is visited like 10 000 times a day and a maximum of $500 for a domain that is doing nothing at all and it doesn't mean anything.
This women is trying to laugh at us but she end up with nothing because of her $25 000. We could had go until $3000 but she said that our first offer of $100 was ridiculous and that the company in questions didn't have the budget. Quote:
I think company will find another name but they said to me that they will trademark everything they have. So it's back to find another name for this clients project.

Domain squatters are a big pain, just pick a different name. Unless the name is very specific, like you are Coke and the domain is coke.com, it really isn't worth fighting over.
You can petition for the name, if it is a trademark or someone's name. Like serra.com. The petition doesn't require lawyers, just lots of paperwork. In this case, the domain was registered before the company, so you can't take the name. It is also possible to change the company name to match a new domain name, in the US, it only costs about $400.00 to change the name of a company or to do a DBA for a new name. I just finished helping a client do just that. They were using a name for 15 years and another company started with a name that was VERY close to their's. It was cheaper and easier to change the company name than to fight it. |

Yes they will get another domain.
We will send an email to the registrant of the domain and say that we could have go until $3,000.00 but because they have started at $25,000.00 that we are not interested to make any more offer. So the person will be angry because she tought that she would had $25,000.00 but instead she looses $3000.00 Best regards,

emaritimes.net is available at GoDaddy for $8.95 plus a $.25 ICANN fee for a total of $9.20 for one year. Pick that up and save $24990.80 for your client. Let the person that owns emaritimes.com sit on that domain until it is absolutely worthless and they have years of registration fees tied into it.
I'm with Serra. Because the domain is already resgistered, you can't start a business now and claim infringement to get the domain. About all you can do is get another domain and just keep an eye out on the dot com version. If they try to copy anything your site has trying to make their domain worth something, then you have a case. You will also want to keep an eye out in case they do not register it and then pick that up as well. I have several domains that I pick up net, com (and org if it does not make money). If you are going to do it, grab it quick before the guy that owns emaritimes.com gets the impression that you are really interested and picks up all extensions so you would have to deal with him and his prices. I have a strong feeling that other guy was dropped on his head as a child if he thinks his domains are worth that much. First of all, it has ten letters and no ten letter domain is worth that much. Maybe if it was 5 letters or less I can see maybe a couple grand. Any domain with 7 or more characters is pretty much valued at a maximum of 5 times what it would cost from an ICANN registrant. Good luck. Let us know what you ended up doing for your client. Then make sure you send a letter to that guy and tell him your client wanted that domain so bad, he wrote you a check to get it and then he found dot net was available and wanted that instead. Make sure you tell him if he would have asked for $8500.00 or less, you may have talked your client into getting it. At least that guy will wonder if he just screwed himself out of $8500.00 and you get to sit back and laugh! |

Finally we have go with two other domain name instead, one for the english part of the site and one for the french part of the site. We have also bought all .com, .net, .biz and .info and for our country the .ca
So we just save us some money and the person with the other domain is left with anything in is pocket from us. Best regards,

chaloupe,
Glad to see the issue was sort of resolved. The .ca would be better off anyways as it's for a Canadian company. |

Sorry but can't tell for now.
Privacy policy and I would have to ask my customers if they would accept for posting their domain names before the site is out and running. As soon as the site is out I will surely post it in the "What do you think of it". Best regards,
