Sorry to ask this question but before I switch I need some feedback and I must ask this direct question: is HostGator a good web-hosting platform for Joomla-built sites? Or let's put it this way: are you happy with your Hostgator webhosting for your Joomla site?
I'm asking because I must say that I'm coming from a very bad experience as regards web-hosting - my present shared web-hosting is with Ipage and my joomla ver 1.5 site is unbelievably slooooooooooooooow on Ipage! As soon as I installed Joomla 1.5 for the first time (and with no sample data!), it was taking more than 10 seconds for my site to load on Ipage webhosting - imagine now that I've created the content, installed plugins, modules, etc.! There is definitely a compatibility issue - Ipage and Joomla are definitely not compatible! And I don't want this thing to happen again to me. So please Joomla site owners; let me know of your experience with Hostgator web-hosting. Is HostGator a good shared web-hosting platform for Joomla-built sites as regards loading speed? And are you happy with your Hostgator webhosting for your Joomla site? |

I had some joomla sites on Business plan (slow), upgraded to a reseller (still slow), then I went to a level 5 vps, and the performance of my CMS sites have improved almost 1000%.
I plan to upgrade to a level 9 once I have my Lvl5 filled with clients. |

Thanks for your reply Ulatan. Actually I was not planning to go for anything other than the Baby Plan Web Hosting. You said you had 'speed' issues with a greater package being the business plan and even your CMS sites were still slow when you further upgraded to a reseller Plan! That's bad news and sounds very problematic to me.
I'd like more feedback from people who have their Joomla sites hosted on a Baby Plan HostGator. Are you experiencing any loading-speed problems with your Joomla site hosted on a Baby Plan Web Hosting by HostGator? |

We have several J! sites on HostGator platform. They are about the speediest Joomla sites I've seen anywhere else. We're quite satisfied with the performance. Just make sure you do all the Joomla specific optimization/compression you can.

It all depends on what plugins, content, and other stuff running on Joomla. Mine would slow down when I had a ton of plugins enabled, even with Gzip, cacheing, and minifying.
Or instead of asking why not try out the Baby plan with your joomla site for only 1 cent. Use the coupon code "SPECIALPROMOTION" it will allow you to purchase the baby plan for 1 cent for 30 days. |

Good Morning,
We do also offer a 45 day money back guarantee if you'd like to try us out. That's no questions asked if you change your mind in that first 45 days. That should allow you plenty of time to optimize configurations and ensure everything is running smoothly. I'm very confident you'll find the speeds satisfactory right away after install, but there's definitely always room for optimization beyond the default configurations. Feel free to send myself a PM here on the forums if you have any specific concerns or questions I can help address before getting started! Best Regards,

Thanks a lot for your replies guys! As some of you suggested I think I'll go for a 30 day trial and decide from there. With this 30 day trial period, will I still be given the option to transfer my site for free to HostGator servers?

Greetings,
We do allow you use of the free transfer within the first 30 days of sign-up. If you wanted to test things for 3-4 weeks, then submit that near the end of your first month with us we'd be happy to take care of the transfer/migration at that time. That gives you around 2 weeks after that takes place to evaluate how things are running before having to make a final decision. That being said I don't imagine you'll find any issues what so ever running Joomla from our shared servers. It's one of the most common CMS's I see day to day here at Hostgator.com. Obviously it's configuration comes into play in terms of how it performs, but a properly optimized Joomla install should run very smoothly. Definitely let us know should you run into any concerns at all as you're getting up and running, we're here to help and are available 24/7/365 by Livechat/Phone/Ticket support! Best Regards,
