great overall, but some ups and downs

Overall our experience has been great, and I have loved HostGator's overall experience. The problems I have had have been fixed pretty quickly, so I have upgraded my service (reseller hosting). I am tempted to upgrade again to a VPS, has anyone had great service with this? A lot have seemed to have problems, but I really want to stick with HG. I do web design and host most of the sites, so I really need top notch stuff. My primary problem has been up and down with speeds, hoping VPS would fix that. Would I have to go dedicated to fix this?

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad that you've had a good experience, and I'm sorry that you've had any problems at all - no problem is a small problem as far as HostGator is concerned! The VPS, as far as resources and benefits go, are usually a hindrance to resellers. They offer lower power, but more control over that power. They are not necessarily upgrades (or downgrades!) for that matter, just different solutions altogether.

Some good reasons to get a VPS:

1) root access
2) control over aspects of MySQL, Apache, PHP et cetera, that wouldn't be allowed on a shared server
3) being able to bypass most of the e-mail policies, in place on shared servers to ensure the server's performance

Basically, an upgrade for you would be a dedicated server in this case, if you were needing more resources. Also, only you and your clients would be on the server. While it is a server all to yourself, we'll still be here to help you manage the server, just like we are now.
