When I first started out, the first company I turned to was fasthosts.. one I couldn't stand so after two months I switched to hostgator at the recommendation of a friend of mine!
And here I am ever since, first starting with a Hatchling account about a year ago, then I moved on to Baby as I was getting more domains and now finally a dedicated server so I wanted to write a review.
The strongest point and one I know I can rely on is the live support offered with all the packages. It's absolutely amazing and the best live support I have ever come across; ideal for someone who doesn't know much about server management and who's starting to learn SQL, PHP, etc. The ticket system is most of the time quite fast as well, especially if you ask one of the live support agents to prioritize it, when it's something urgent.
The only problem I had recently was when one of my sites on the baby package exceeded the 25% CPU limit outlined in the Terms and Conditions and this is what lead me to getting the dedicated server. The live support agents I talked to on that day were happy to help, although a guy I talked with on the phone took about 15 minutes to first find what the problem was after telling him already, but maybe it was his first day on the job. I'd also like to thank again to Brent for intervening and also to all the other Gators for helping sort out the downtime problem quickly!
Overall, in my opinion Hostgator is THE hosting providers, just like Google is THE search engine. Great reliable, stable and professional services and competitive prices! Nothing is perfect but these guys are not far from it
