Hello,
searching out to resolve a problem with one site. (The other indexing with sitemaps are working just fine); I read this here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=100844 Tested it, its true. Unbeliveable. It is a small site 20 pages: Of course, sitemap ok, W3C ok, etc. Was just not indexed since the sitemap is up. Somebody have some experience about? |

If it is true and google will stop indexing my page so often, I'll make sure I have site maps on ever site. I mean do google really need to hit may page 38,000 times a month?
It seems obvious, that if your site has a sitemap, that google wouldn't hit it as often because it knows where everything is, it just hits it, takes what it needs and comes back later. If it is hitting more often when people don't have a site map, then its doing so because its trying to find out more about your site, which doesn't in any way mean that it coming more often is a good thing. I might just be searching for new links or something. Lets face it, we haven't really got a clue how google works really. |

Thats really an amaising story,
For this site and this site only, I took over. changed the meta title then set-up the sitemap, ran Google etc etc. The new title never appears nor new abstract/description. The last crawl as said in Google reported Dec. the 23th; the day before launching the sitemap. But in the domain logs I see the Gbot everyday. Soon as I shut down the sitemap in Google, (Next day) I had the new title and new (New after Dec 23th) description. They not indexed less often as normally the sitemap (Overwriting some other rules perhaps tells them; one week delay in this case) but simply stop to update the base even if they was crawling all the oages about each day. !!!! no words, I have to bite myself for to believe. |

It takes google weeks and sometimes months to 'cache up' to its self. Keep watching and you will see the result of your work. Read their policies, though. The suggestions in the Google help pages and in the user support forums are golden...

Google has a mind of its own. Is your sitemap xml and updated by a cron job, or it a manually generated sitemap?
I would not worry too much. If your site follows the guidelines of google webmasters, it will come fine in time. If you are especially seo'ing your site for search engines, it is most likely you have broken the rules. (if you want to send me a PM with your site, I will give you a short critique) Remember to make your websites for people - not search engines, and you will not get into trouble. Personally I use 100's of little enhancements that can be used without problems in sites just for search engines that won't get you in trouble. But then, I was doing search engine optimization when yahoo was born. Mind you, we did not call it that then. Having followed the industry silently ever since I have found the only way to do it right is to keep up to date with trends, avoid "black hat tactics" and testing, testing and more testing. Basically the "rules" have not changed in the major search engines for some years now.

I don't trust automated scripts that generate sitemaps or that install a forum. You just don't know what it is doing and how. That's why I did my sitemap manually.
pli, I'm interested in your tips.

My tip is get reading on a daily basis (just to keep up to date) and read current and history in creditable forums and blogs
Ie http://www.highrankings.com/forum/index.php http://searchenginewatch.com/ (pay for the non public stuff) http://searchengineland.com/ etc Why history? - you will find out where others have come unstuck in their quest for the top 3 listings. Why learn from your own mistakes in that respect P
