Google & Issues hosting with UG from UK

Hi,

I love Hostgator, everything works so well, and the support is friendly. I can live with the 112ms ping response time from the UK (as opposed to many of the UKs 12ms) as you get so much more for your money and far better support. Im on a one month trial at the moment, but I have a couple of questions about some other things.

1) Im new to hosting, and Im based in the UK with UK clients. I need my .com to appear in the UK listings. Would this be affected if I use US hosting?

2) I plan to have a form that sends clients details to me, their address and phone number (then gets redirected to paypal uk for payment) and im worried there may be legal issues with this, as customers information is travelling outside the UK. I read somewhere that this can be a criminal offence if you dont have fancy security that I dont know about, but maybe im mistaken. Does anyone know about this? Thanks in advance!
