I have been a webmaster of many various kinds of sites (right now I own 6 - but only one hosted by hostgator) for at least 8 years, so I am no novice. However, I am very glad that hostgator allows payment by the month (it's even one of their advertised "advantages") so that I don't have to worry about trying to get a refund if I later choose to move on, which I probably will do eventually.
My beef? I have tried 5 - count them, 5 - different mysql scripts, and haven't been able to get even 1 to work. Every single one comes up with errors. Bad scripts? Quite a coincidence, don't you think? Granted, I can go to using cgi scripts to do what I need done (which I've had to do on a few occasions) but it's very frustrating to have to resort to such measures when a php/mysql script has everything you want but you can't use it. I know that there are quite a few happy hostgator users out there. I only wish I was one of them. |

Hi wallee,
Do you have a ticket number I can look at? We definitely allow mysql so if your having a problem getting a script to work we'd be happy to take a look and tell you whats being done wrong.

Never sent a ticket. Didn't need to hear "something's wrong with the script". I automatically figured that was the case.
But here's how the last week went down: I found a script I liked, tried it, didn't work. Found another script - same type. Tried it. Didn't work. Found another, same thing. Tried it. Didn't work. Gave up on that type of program. Found the script remotely hosted. Decided to go with them instead. A few days later, found another script I liked. Tried it. Didn't work. Didn't waste my time trying to find another mysql script like it. Decided to go cgi on that one. Later again, wanted something else on my site that needed mysql. Tried it. Didn't work. I gave up and wrote the above post. Tell you what GatorBrent. I'll send a ticket - if for no other reason then to alert tech support that I have a problem (fixable or not). If they're game, I'll send a script to them and see if they can get one of them to work. Do they do that? |

Hi Wallee,
I can understand your frustration, and based on your description, something is clearly broken. If the issue affected the entire server, we would have received multiple complaints and it would have been researched and resolved. So I have to presume something is broken that is affecting your account, or simply something isn't being done exactly the way it's supposed to be done. That's fine, I'm more than happy to try to fix it for you or explain what's going wrong and what needs to change so it can work. In short, I can totally understand your frustration when things don't go right. What I can't understand is why you didn't contact support at all before writing a review? It seems fair to give us a chance to investigate, and if there's something wrong or we've made a mistake, let us fix it. At least give us a shot. I can't tell what the problem is from your description here, but if you can paste some sort of error in your ticket, the steps you took and what step failed, etc - we'll be happy to take a look at the situation and see if we can resolve it for you. It may be as simple as explaining what was being done wrong, or fixing an issue that prevents things from working properly for you. Thanks! |

I figured I'd get a "why didn't you come to us first" response after that last post. But I think I answered that in that last post, too.
Like I said, I've been a webmaster for a long time, and over that time I've had a lot of host and hosting related issues. I've heard the "it must be your script" of "it must be something to do with your homepage" quick answer before. Indeed, a host can not control what kind of script a person attempts to put on their site, thus, they can't fix what they have no control over or didn't write themselves. The best they can do in that case is tell you to try something else. Well, I tried to do that. After the fifth try, I got mad. OK - I didn't go to support. My bad. Now that I have, let's see if we end up with a happy ending to this issue. |

Good news! - I guess a happy ending came after all.
Hostgator fixed my mysql problem. (Surprised?) Turns out it was something I failed to do. I guess it pays to contact support first before assuming anything, huh? |

Haha you know what Wallee you're a very good sport. =)
I've done what you have before in fact I've prob done it many times with companies. Like you I know were all human and can make mistakes. Most customers would actually deny to prove they weren't wrong even when they know they messed up. =) Thanks for being cool!
