First week i have been with host gator had good and bad experiences
First the good -great support, fast responging - cheapest host for its features (which is a lot of features) - good speeds Now the Bad - Already experienced downtime (although brief) - Experienced SQL failure - Told that my server doesnt support ASP and that i will have to be moveed to a new server - i was told EVERYTHING in my account will be deleted even SQL databases and subdomains. - Had to spend a few hours downloading backups of everything to reupload to the new server - ASP server has different DNS info which will take another 48 hours of downtime for the DNS to propgate again - I am not very happy right now, hopefully hostgaotr will understand and refund my money for the month -kabir , netlooks.net |

The server you were moved from has never had downtime other then a kernal upgrade that was done 16 days ago which took 2 minutes for it to reboot.
We support Chilisoft ASP. Active server pages is an open , compile-free application environment that combines scripting, HTML, customer server components, and robust database publishing to create dynamic web based applications. If you require asp email us immediately after signing up. www.hostgator.com/backup.html if you follow that as we tell everyone it would not take hours downloading and uploading it would take minutes. We also informed you of the different dns and you would be responsible for moving your site at time of the asp server move which you requested. We honor our 99.9% uptime guarantee, but can't honor downtime for something you requested sorry.

Thanks for clearing up your problems with me on chat. For those curious he had the "downtime and other issues" while his dns was still in the process of prorogating.
Also did a dns forwarder so your site will be working as soon as it's uploaded on the new box.

I initially asked if there was a way to remotely transfer my sites(from another provider using WHM) and after a week of bungled support answers i came to the conclusion that its not possible. Doing the backup as per the link above means that each site gets compressed and downloaded to your machine *if you are lucky*. You then need to upload it from your machine to the new hosting. Sure this might take minutes for those of you with T1 connections, some of us are not that fortunate. The incredibly frustrating side of this is that my old hosting WHM was able to send a "complete backup" via ftp to land in my new hosting home account. But i was then unable to use this to restore the client site. Well support@gator couldnt tell me how to do it. I made this as clear to support@gator as i have now, but i got nothing but confusion or their common (i am going to lunch) resonses of "What is your username and domain name again?" |

Matix if you email in randomly not saying who you are of course we have no idea who you are..
If you open a ticket stating who you are then continue that same ticket by replying to the email you receive without starting a new email we already have your information. So make sure to hit reply rather then creating a new email. PS: Please don't post the same thing multiple times.

I'm hosted at different servers at the moment (I wanted to go to this server in a few weeks time)
and I must say, reading all those complaints, it is really nothing compared to the experience I've had with other servers, other servers also say 99.9% uptime guarantee, but the fact is, they can't make it, and are sometimes offline for days, and they have less options than this server... So, reading all the complaints here, this is a really good server, the best one I've encountered so far and I've seen hundreds..
