Angry GoDaddy :-(

Anyone here experiencing this problem?

I have a few domains with GoDaddy cos they are cheaper than the other UK company that I use to register them but Im having a nightmare thiese last few days as when I try and login I get "ACCOUNT LOCKED FOR SECURITY REASONS" or something along them lines. I've mailed support, nothing like Hostgator's support though, theirs is bl**dy cr*p!
After 5 days backwards and forwards they finally mail me, after verifying my account details, and they say it's now UNLOCKED.Went to login and its still LOCKED!
So had to send in another support ticket telling this problem and now probally have to wait another couple of days for them to reply/fix problem! It's driving me mad, as I need to register some domains and dont want to keep changing companies!

Also, even after me requesting an explanation as why my account is locked, no explanation was given!

Anyone here experiencing this problem?
Can anyone recommend a company to register domains as cheap as GoDaddy does? ie: $9.99 for a 1 year .com?

I hate godaddy with a passion, always have and always will. They have good commercials though..

NameCheap.com is $9.29, they are also really good.

I have used godaddy since day 2 (thats somewhere around 1999) and so far didn't have any problems with them. needed to contact their support a couple of times but it was smooth ( not as smooth or fast as HG tho)

GoDaddy nearly hijacked my most popular domain. Rather than go into it, they threatened to charge me $150 to not suspend it or $75 if I wanted to go to another registrar. I left them pronto.

I use Moniker now. Not quite the cheapest, but very, very robust with a reputation for great security.

I wanted to add that GoDaddy's main office is two blocks from my office. I love to have a local provider -- but they made it impossible.

I'm still using Godaddy, better than most. They've done their share of stupid things and I hate the fact that every time I login, I have to relearn the interface because they changed it...

Well, after they tried to hijack one of my domains, I left them pronto. There's nothing they offer that you cannot find elsewhere -- and with better service and support.

I've used GoDaddy for about a year and spent hundreds with them in products. Have not had a single problem with them. (the monthly coupons they send are nice also) =)

Good to know. But when you encounter the difficulties I had, you're gunshy even though they are, as I said, practically a neighbor.

I had a notification issue with one domain. They stepped me through fixing it. Their fix, was to change ALL of the domain information over to my info. 150 customer domains changed to my name and address. I'm still dealing with the fallout from that. Yea, I told them thanks...

Other than that, they've been fine.

I just fail to see any added value with them. Their hosting is pathetic, their tech support middling, and, as a domain registrar, they offer nothing I can't get elsewhere. By the time you add the extras, such as domain privacy (free with other registrars), it's not so cheap either.

When i was looking around, I found they had a better interface than most, that was the only reason I used them. Now, I'm more or less stuck with them as moving my domains would be an expensive nightmare.

Depends on how many you have. I moved all my domains pretty quickly, and the usual deal is that the new registrar gets you another year for the price.

I had an issue with another Hosting company trying to hijack my domains names as well, which is how I ended up with HG, and a few months in with HG I can honestly say I have zero complaints with them so far. It took almost a month, and a threat of a lawsuit to get the other hosting company to release me. Of course half of that I can blame on their version of support, which was obviously "outsourced" and gave you a headache just trying to communicate with.

LOL, sure, screw 'em now, after all the headaches they put me through. It was Startlogic. i had only used them because they had been given a really good review from a hosting review site, but I'm guessing that review was padded somehow. Even their no questions money back guarantee was a lie. And when they finally did decide to give the refund, they split it into 2 smaller refunds back to my credit card, which I can't even start to tell you angered me to no end.

Yes, those review sites can be useless. Quite often they are just paid to publish those reviews.

That was my guess as well. Luckily the one I read that pushed me to look into HG was on track.

I use Dotster.com, they are like $15/year, but I just upcharge it anyway so I don't really care. I've NEVER had to contact them with any problems and it's always just worked.

If you have, say, 300 domains I suppose price is a factor. When it's just a few (I have 20) you choose the company that seems to provide the best service and security.

Yes, but if I'm just upcharging, it doesn't matter too much to me, as long as it's profit, I'm fine with it.

Yes, that's always a great racket to be in

My clients don't care about upcharging. I give them the option to purchase their own, but they'd rather not have to deal with it than save 15-20 bucks, they'd rather have me deal with it.
