You have an awesome collection of themes. But I would like some for Wordpress too. Maybe someone could learn WordPress and convert some themes over to WordPress.

There's tons out there available for free... try a search through Google and you'll find tons. It really wouldn't be worth the while for HG to spend time on that.

And it's a slippery slope...first WoodPress themes, sooner or later tropical fish screensavers.

(Back when there was a substantial price difference between LCD and CRT monitors, I knew a corporate IT guy who figured being able to implement a screensaver ban would save so much more in IT time that it was a no-brainer.)

I disagree. There's lots of mediocre themes out there, and to use them, you have to maintain the credit links. Not very professional looking IMO. I'd like some more polished looking unique themes that I could use without a credit link.
And if you don't like Wordpress, that's ok with me. |

Are you saying the free webtemplates Hostgator provides us were made by customers?

i was saying that there are already LOTS of free wordpress themes available all over the place. if you don't like them and you want something different, you're free to purchase or make one yourself. that's it.

Its true that there are TONS of free WordPress themes out there, but most people want to/will end up customizing there own. If you're a Dreamweaver user (familiar with HTML/CSS) you can modify your own easily using an extension for Dw call ThemeDreamer. You can then just download a free theme and open it up to see it visually to start hacking away.

google around but you need to be aware that some people take others themes and add bad code...hidden links, their own footer urls, other spammy kinda stuff... so just be careful where you get themes from. find credible designers and get the themes from them. the best thing is to learn html, css, php b/c you still need to know how to modify code or you'll end up with the same theme others have. if you aren't capable of finding legit designers or safe themes pay for them. most designers have forums on their sites for help on modifying.
it's easier for you to find them than to have hostgator to create them. quit being lazy. dont say you haven't been warned... |

Best too, as someone else said here, learn html and css and code your own using a text editor. That will save you tons of trouble in the long run. that's my story and I'm stickin to it.

ThemeDreamer version 0.4.1 is now out and it goes one step further by revealing what WordPress's PHP code does so that you can apply CSS. Its definately a time saver, and makes things easier BUT is reserved for experienced designers and prerequisites are DW, and CSS. To really accelerate theme development without a whole lot of working from scratch, I use wpthemerkit + themedreamer in dreamweaver = fast customized site development for everything from corporate sites to personal blogs. Check out the following if your a DW user. http://www.wpthemerkit.com + http://www.themedreamer.com |

If you're interested in tackling the job of creating your own theme, this tutorial is very well constructed and easy to follow in terms of learning the way the WordPress code works.
It's done in such a way that anyone with a basic understanding of HTML and CSS can get their theme up and running in no time at all. |
