Hello,
I ask these questions as I have a small reseller account and am looking to upgrade. The semi-dedicated package has my eye right now. In reading around these Forums I see references to being suspended. My question is about this. I assume that this is saying, if I have a package, and exceed the bandwith, my account will be suspended? But the wording in some of the posts suggests that the account could be suspended for other reasons, such as high traffic. What is real here? As well, (sorry I hate double questions in one post) I sometimes send out bulk email to my double opt-in list. Yes, double opt-in. Each address has clicked a link in an email to get registered. None-the-less I always get spam complaints when I send out emails, as most users today think all email, except that from their girlfriend, is SPAM. How is this issue handled at HostGator? --rdk Last edited by rdkelsey; 12-18-2006 at 01:03 AM. |

1. Yes, people get suspended for reason other than space, bandwidth or max connections. Normally, these people are using too much CPU. Using too much CPU means your website is either VERY busy, or it sucks.
2. Yes, any emails you send that are called SPAM by the people who get them, are considered SPAM by HG. There are plenty of threads here about that. If you send spam, you are a spammer and you are violating the TOS. It is the people who are getting the spam that determine if you are sending them spam or not. |

If those complaints are coming from people receiving the click-to-register email, perhaps the verbage or some other aspect of your site has clouded the issue that they are registering for your list. If those complaints are coming from people who get subsequent emails after they've clicked to register, it suggests your operation is doing something that recipients regularly ("always") interpret as spam. It might not be fair to blame the users. Serra is right in that the definition of spam does fall to them. |

So, I guess I don't have to worry about getting suspended unless I use too much CPU then. Thanks for that info.
The SPAM issue is much different though. It is ironic that the same person who actually "confirms" that they want to receive additional emails from me, is the one who will call it SPAM and make trouble. I guess that is the way of the Internet. A number of quite uneducated people, clicking links as though it's a fun game without a clue what they are doing. Launching websites that closeup within three months and generally making trouble for other legitimate, long term businesses. Hmmm ... almost sounds like real life. I guess I should probably put that site on an account of it's own. Thanks for the info. --rdk Last edited by rdkelsey; 12-18-2006 at 01:03 AM. |

in case one of my sites uses too much of CPU ressource (or Mysql cnx), will I be warned with information (like which site, process, etc is causing issue), with a deadline to remedy the issue? or directly suspended? main concern: a successful forum (or other script), or a test script with bugs or persistent mysql cnx (I track them, to config as non-persistent, but often test new CMS, new forum scripts, etc) thx in advance for input. |

I have a question about suspending, if you have a forum with about 2000 users onilne at the moment, about how much of cpu resources you use with an IPB board? If I will install 2 boards with 1000 users onile I will be suspended? If it's possible tell me about how much CPU resource I can use and if a forum use very much resources.
