Default Getting started

I`m planning on hosting with hostgator. After my domaim name (myname.com) is registered with Hostgator , what is next? Will there be an Under construction site? Is there some instructions somewhere as to what to do next?.I`m pretty much lost... Can`t seem to find the tutorial on this. I do plan on using a site builder to build my site, but looking for step by step direction from registering and sign up to installing a sitebuilder . Thanks..

There is a link to request a site builder and a demo of sitebuilder showing step by step. If you are in doubt at any stage, contact support

Thanks, I did find that.. I guess I need to explain more. What happens after my domain name is registered to hostgator? Is there a "under construction " page automatically there ,or do I need to build and publish that also? I know I need to request a sute builder or a CMS , but is there somewhere where it tells me what folders to put my different pages into as I build them? Needless to say this my first time at this and looking for some guidance before I start. Thanks.

There are thousands of "how to make a website" type tutorials that you can find easily using google. You might want to spend some time learning what it is you actually want to do or in fact can do, with your hosting. In other words if you know what you want to achieve, we can better help answer questions you may have.

I suggest choosing a CMS (Content Management System) not the horrible site builders as the basis for your website. This is by far the easiest way to start a website. You can then spend your time creating content, not learning how to correctly write code. If you can use a word processor, you should be able to use a CMS.

There is a "default.html" skeleton file [1] placed in new accounts, that includes information for you to start building your site (and lets others know that the site is not ready). It's more a jumpstart page than an "Under Construction" page, though.

ninja edit: ach, old topic.

Hi. I am new here and am just in the process of changing nameservers. I read this post and have a question please. I assumed I would be using Hostgators site builder to build my site. Are you saying I should use CMS and not their site builder?

Thanks,

Krista
