I just added HG to my domain name and I am trying to set everything up. Was going thru the getting started sections in my cpanel and was trying to setup webdisk to my desktop. It keeps saying ports 2078 and 2077 to make sure they are not blocked by firewall. I am running windows vista and I have opened windows firewall and although I did not see ports for them numbers I added them and gave access. I then went to my home network firewall and did the same thing on it. It is still giving me the error message can someone please help me with what is wrong here? THanks!

You never said what error message you are seeing. And when are you seeing it?

Hmmm Yes I did it clearly says in the second sentence " It keeps saying ports 2078 and 2077 to make sure they are not blocked by firewall."

It is difficult to provide much help with the limited amount of information given. How are you creating your website? Have you changed the nameservers on the domain to point to the server here? Can you see anything when you enter the domain name into a browser?
I would suggest using an FTP program to upload your data to your site if you are creating it on your local computer. |

Ok I did not ask anything about info on how to build the website. I asked about creating the webdisk on my desktop. There is limited info because I put info on what I was asking for. Not anything about building a website.

Best of luck then. Sorry to have wasted your time.
I followed the instructions in cPanel to set up the WebDisk on one of my domains by saving a link to my desktop and then running it. Everything worked fine. I suspect from the message you are receiving about opening ports 2077/2078 that something is amiss in your firewall settings so I would recheck that. |

Can you telnet to your domain on port 2077 or 2078? If not then your firewall is the problem. To check that, turn off your windows firewall then re-test using telnet. If by, "my home network firewall" you mean a router, then you don't need to open ports in there as you are making outbound connections.

Apparently you can connect to cPanel, is that right? If so, you're luckier than some Vista users, who note chronic setting conflict issues between the Vista firewall provisions and cable modem/router firewall stuff. As for Webdisk, since Rick naturally assumed you wouldn't be setting it up, contrary to the HG TOS, as a storage device, he was suggesting an alternative for uploading/downloading files to your site (the main allowable function for Webdisk on a shared server). On the remote chance that you haven't yet searched for information on the Vista/Webdisk situation--problematic for even folks with fairly developed knowledge of network stuff--see some of the results that turn up from: webdisk vista problem OR issue - Google Search
