Would anyone else like to test this service? Most of the kinks have been worked out.
We don't have SSL working yet, but any regular site should work fine. PM me if you would like to try the UK IP service. |

I was testing this UK based IP thing in my server, and here are some results:
In the same server, located in ThePlanet's Dallas Datacenter, I have 2 test accounts, one with US IP, 74.54.17.203, and another account with UK based IP, 81.95.156.164. Tests done in/from Finland. PING: Code:
Ping statistics for 74.54.17.203:
Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 155ms, Maximum = 160ms, Average = 157ms
Code:
Ping statistics for 81.95.156.164:
Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Ah ok.. Yeah it won't work for the UK IP because of the way its setup.
We decided to make this product domain based, instead of IP based. If it were IP based, we could probably have FTP and SSH on the UK IP. Having it domain based, will allow us to open up to a lot more different countries with less servers. In the end, it should be a better solution, since single IPs won't be pointed to a specific server.. It can use many domains from different servers. It will also be a cheaper solution for clients as well. We still don't know how much this product is going to cost yet, but it will be very reasonable. The back end is basically at a working state at the moment. I'm going to start working on a simple client side web GUI. I'll post some screen shots when I have something done for the client side. |

I tested them and it's quite impressive. I make some test with http://www.site-perf.com/ and perf goes simple to double. We are currently investigating to move our hosted accounts to an European provider. This option could be really great ! I'll PM you to make a test |

A quick update.
The back end is now at a point where it is fully functional. As such, we've begun work on the web interface which will be available to you in your actual WHM. It's still at a very basic & raw state right now but here is what it's looking like now: http://dcollins.staff.hostgator.com/geoip/geoip1.png http://dcollins.staff.hostgator.com/geoip/geoip2.png It should be noted that we still undecided on how we're going to offer this service and whether or not this will end up being a paid service. A quick explanation of the interface: The Select Client box is populated with the username of your main reseller account and all sub accounts. When you change selections in this combo box the rest of the information populates accordingly. The Location box obviously shows a list of available IP pools from differing geographical locations. Anything crossed out in red denotes a reserved IP and is unavailable. Usually for dedicated IP's / SSL installations. You can simply select the IP from the right and click "Change IP" and the back end will take care of the rest. |

I had several mails with GatorDave but either he does respond in a very short and strict manner or does not respond at all. furthermore i would like to know when you setup my domain you promised me. It's so unreliable when you say something but nothing happen for days ... not even an answer. I have the history from our conversation, which is written in a friendly way from myself, and i am really thinking about sending that to the customer support from HG.
sorry guy(s) but this is certainly not the Hostgator-way to handle customer needs. I am also sorry to handle this via the forum but infact I dont have a choice since my mails to GatorDave are completely ignored. Why do you seem to be such an arrogant and unfriendly person DaveC? Maybe im wrong with this and I really hope that this is only a misunderstanding and I can keep you on your word for the future. thx for notice, a really surprised customer from switzerland |

You should remember that this is not a service HostGator is offering and you are paying for, at the moment it's just testing.

hey all what i ask for is the staff to be reliable and to behave with integrity to agreements made. when we pass the information 1:1 to our customers and the things are not done, we hang for that.
If staff can not apply a spark of decency by at least responding within 2/3 days, at the end this is just the worst disrespectful service you could get. And i am 100% sure that i don't deserve to be threated like that. Its really sad and it leaves even now a bad taste that i had to write on the forum to receive an answer. i am really speechless and surprised about the whole thing. but I try to consider that, with lot of good will, as an exception - future will show! IPMI was using one of the IPs I was assigning to the test accounts. There could have been an outage for a little while. The issue has been resolved.
Just giving everyone a heads up. |

For the time being, we're going to close this round of beta testers and stop accepting new beta testers.
Any beta testers already using this service will not experience any loss of service and can contact GatorDaveC via PM with any questions or concerns. Thanks everyone for your help and participation!

Glad I was the last one.
The ping on my country drops from 135ms to 29ms avr. The connection to USA is done with bad routing and it's hight usage at peack day's did influence the results but the fact is that it's a lot better. However, and I did send a PM regarding this, I (think that) know that FTP under the UK IP seems not possible, right? SL
