First day using it and AwStats did report only 55 views on the website, but pageviews, hits and bandwith are correct.

Most of my visitors are from Europe, does Hostgator recommend to change to an UK based IP ?

There is nothing wrong using the US IP. Its really just for personally preference. If you have a live site, I wouldn't recommend it just yet, since the service is still BETA.

We've done a few optimizations to increase the speed of word press sites. If you are one of the beta testers using a word press site, you may notice the images will load slightly faster.

Let me know if you see any problems.

important 2 issues:
1. no Ftp access for other domains on same account
2. htaccess not yet working

my client has 3 domains on his account.
one of this domains is added with UK-IP beta testing
all the other domains can not be reached via FTP ... only the one
UK-IP domain can be accessed.
Via Cpanel filemanager it works but this is useless since we have only files
from 30-50 mb to upload. so we are stranded somehow

2.
the other issue with htaccess/htpassword does actually not yet work too.
if you test that on a hostgator owned domains are you really profen sure that this works???

1. FTP should work fine if you are using the US IP or a domain that points to the US server. If you want, you can PM me the details and I can take a look at it for you.

2. Htaccess does work. Htpasswd authentication was working, but its not working until we can do more testing on it. Caching wasn't working as well when we allowed it to be passed through.

I'm not able to work on this project for at least a little while since I'm working on another project that should be released in the next month.

Would you like me to remove you from the UK IP BETA service for now?

We are still testing it. This is a little side project that I'm working on during free time.

The actual interface pretty much works right now, but we still need to add in a couple of more features, and make sure everything is secure before launching a public BETA.

The code will only work in WHM, so you would need at least a reseller account to use the public BETA service when we release it.

I'm not sure if or how much we are going to charge for the service at this time.

Hurray! Can't wait - as someone in the UK with a reseller account (just not a reseller - long story involving multiple IPs!) this should give me loads of extra speed, not to mention I heard that Google favours sites with IPs in the "proper" country.

Bandwidth really isn't an issue with our Data center. To be honest with you, one of the bigger challenges we are going to have with this service is dealing with poorly coded scripts that won't cache very well.

Having said that, if we know something can be cached, we can actually force it to be cached in a pattern.


If anyone has a reseller account, and would like to test the BETA interface service, let me know your domain and username on the server, and I'll try to give you a preview.

How can we find out when this service goes live, and at what cost?

I have to be honest and say, I am about to start looking for a UK based host for various reasons - most of my visitors are European - but was concerned about the hassle involved. This would sort things out nicely for me.

But is there a "let me know when..." list that I can subscribe to?

When you say you're working on it in your free time, is this an "official" project or is it something you're just playing with at home ?

I've noticed in the last 3/6 months that there is definately a time lag when using hostgator from the uk, so would really like this feature, or would have to look at moving to a uk based host.
