Is anyone else having problems with gator73?
Last night (Friday) I manually installed Drupal, created a database for it, and did some initial configuration, and everything was fine. This morning (Saturday), the folder was empty. The database was still there so I went to use phpMyAdmin via the cpanel and it errored out. I submitted a ticket, was told things were fixed, but after 13 hours, still not working. Also today, I found a cron job that had been running fine started failing today. I submitted a ticket on that but 2 1/2 hours later, no response on the ticket. So, if someone else is on gator73, can you check out phpMyAdmin and see if it is working for you? Are you seeing any other problems on the server? |

This morning I had a response to my ticket about cron jobs failing.
"The server was upgraded to new hardware and the system was rebuilt, so some of the permissions on the binaries like 'curl' were wrong." It appears this problem has been fixed. However, the phpMyAdmin problem still exists. And I haven't recieved any updates on it. Although it appears that ticket has been moved to level 2 support. So 24+ hours after seeing and reporting the problem, it still is not resolved. This has not been what I normally see from HostGator's tech support, and I hope this is an exception to the normally quick responses. |

Not sure if this is the same problem but if you look over at the cPanel forums people have been complaining about dodgy update;s that have broke phpmyadmin and fantastico.

I recieved another update on my second ticket related to cron jobs not running. The server was put on new hardware for the new increased limits. I was told the script to increase the limits was re-run, but mine is still showing the old limits. I'm not hurting for the increase limits, but from my perspective, I think the upgrade on gator73 has not gone as smothly as it could have. I'm sure the problem I'm still seeing with phpMyAdmin not working is also related to this, but I can't seem to get anyone to respond to that ticket.
So I'm still

I recieved updates on both my tickets overnight. phpMyAdmin is now working again, ~43 hours after I reported the problem. My account is still at the old limits even though I was told the reason for the hardward upgrade was to move gator73 to the new limits. So now the ticket is in sales to resolve. Hopefully that will be taken care of shortly.
I would guess that being I'm on gator73, that approximately 72 other servers were already upgraded. I would think with that much experience, the procedures for upgrading the equipment would be pretty solid. So testing things like curl, phpMyAdmin, and probably most, if not all of the functions on cpanel, would be a standard practice using a normal user account, to make sure things were working correctly. This experience is just not what I've typically seen from HostGator Support, so I hope it is the exception, and not become the rule. I also suggested in both tickets, that before doing a scheduled upgrade like this, that a brief email be sent to all of the accounts on the server. This wouldn't need to be real detailed, just a brief note that there is some scheduled maintenance being done, in this case it was to allow the larger quotas, and a very broad timeframe, would be helpful. But then HostGator may be at the mercy of The Planet. But some simply communications between the two of them, and to us the end customers, would go a long way. I also know I may be asking for a lot for as little money as I spend on hosting. By far, my experience with hosting companies has been better with HostGator than with any other provider I've used in the past, despite the past several days. |

I'm on Gator73 as well. I just checked my cPanel and it doesn't look like my account was upgraded either. I am going off the "Disk space available" number which still says 5GB max for my Baby account.
Also from what I have been reading in other threads, they are not upgrading the servers in accending order. So this server may not have been the 73rd upgraded if it really was upgraded. Last edited by jabari; 04-02-2007 at 12:29 PM. |
