gator50.hostgator.com became unresponsive. Upon investigation with the datacenter, the server wouldn't reboot due to a hardware problem.
We are currently working on this issue and do not yet have an ETA. We will be sure to keep you updated with the progress. |

I'm on 50. It must be cursed! Is HG still only backing up once a week? 'cause apparently I've not learned my lesson in making more frequent backups myself...

Any more news on this one? I just started hosting a new site for our film production company and we need to schedule auditions. This is killing us.

I see it is back up. Sort of. Almost two weeks worth of work gone! If this is the best you can do, I will be looking for a new host yet again!

The server has been running for about 6 hours now. It looks like the /home partition was corrupted, and despite our best efforts we were unable to repair the inode table.
So what does this all mean? Robert Stone and I are still in the process of restoring all accounts from our Sunday Night backups. Luckily that means that most of you will not lose more then a day or so of work, but there is a possibility that a few accounts may be restored from backups up to a week old due to file system corruption. It should also be noted that this outage DID NOT affect the mysql databases, or cpanel configuration files and logs. I'm sure many of you are wondering why the mirrored raid array was not used to restore the server more quickly. The simple fact of the matter is, that due to the nature of RAID 1 (mirroring) file system corruption that occurs on one drive will occur on the other. The true purpose of RAID 1 is protection from catastrophic physical hard drive failure, which was not the case here. The entire HostGator team offers to all of you our most humble apologies for the downtime, inconvenience, and frustration this has caused. Anyone with any questions or concerns is encouraged to contact us, but please do not notify us that your "specific" site is down until we announce that we have restored all of the accounts. Rest assured that Robert and I will not rest until TOTAL restoration has been completed. If at that time you are still experiencing issues please notify us via the ticket system and will we promptly investigate the matter. Again, our apologies, and we will update you as to our progress when we have something to report. Best Regards, David Collins |
