Default gator215 and Hotmail delivery

Over the past week or so, gator215 has had extremely sporadic delivery at Hotmail and their SNDS data (spam collection data, essentially) leaves a lot to be desired as it's flagging more legit messages as spam than actual spam.

I've opened a ticket with Hotmail today to finally try and get to the root of this issue.

Your IP 70.85.10.66 is blocked by MSN Hotmail because the vast majority of all the email that you send to Hotmail has been judged to be spam by MSN Hotmail's internal filtering system. One possible explanation for this is the automatic forwarding of unfiltered inbound messages, including spam messages, to MSN/Hotmail addresses. This block lasts up to 72 hours and then is removed. If again the large majority of all the email from the IP is marked as spam it is blocked again, and so on indefinitely. The block against your IP is set to be lifted at 9-21-2007 17:04:55 -07.


Any users with forwarders to Hotmail should remove them immediately. We will be making a sweep of these addresses in the coming days to remove them.

Richard, most of my clients have forwards rather than pop accounts, and some of them are most likely to Hotmail. Can you please, during your sweep, let us know what accounts are being disabled? I'm the contact on all my accounts, none of my clients have cpanel access. That would be much easier than going through 80+ accounts one by one. Thanks.

Hi,

ohh is this for all hg customers/dedi users or just gator215?


Edit: I have 205 domains on the server so it could be quite long to do them one by one.

Only for gator215 right now. This box has been having some serious issues for no reason other than the forwarders.

@Dwight:
I'll see what we can do. There will be a log maintained of what's changed -- if the removal process is approved.

I wonder if we could create a rule for forwarders that when they are created that they cannot use like @hotmail.com

Thanks. Even if you don't remove them, if you let us know we can try to get our clients to switch to some other email host.

You'll have mailscanner installed anyways, so spam shouldn't be getting through forwarders.

MailScanner doesn't scan when it is a forward I think,,, let me check that!

I'm on superbee and have returned messages from hotmail accounts all day " Your e-mail was rejected for policy reasons on this gateway." Plain text messages too! Is there a way around this?

Yep, it does... otherwise I'd have one domain with about 2500 spam a day...
