Default gator11 problems

Same old story. Server load over 8 (currently 17.34) and I can't access my site, BoringFamilyTree.com. Once I finally get access to my cPanel is says spamd failed, server load 17.34(4cpus) and memory usage 66.5%. I'm tired of having to sit around and wait on the server load to go below 8 so I can access my website. This happens daily and numerous times during the day. I believe someone on the server is hogging resources or something. I paid for another 3 months recently but I will be moving my site because I don't need to be on a server where I can't access my website. I selected hostgator because I thought they would have the best service but so far they haven't proved it to me.

I have the same old story as well on 67.19.167.226.

It's slow a lot and down often. I as well am going to switch if this inst corrected. Somebody is defiantly hogging resources. Perhaps its time to upgrade the machine? I need my site to be up and fast, it’s crucial.

Currently: 2:20am Pacific Standard Time / Monday, April 25th.

Server Load 16.74 (4 cpus) Memory Used 44.7 %

The Sever Load is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too high for this time of night. Something is going on.

Ah now I know why my site wasnt working on at this time. I was even speaking to Tech support on MSN and they denied anything was actually wrong. Even 8 hours after I initially asked them.

Please open a support ticket when you notice slowness. As well as call in as soon as it is going on saying Brent asked you to call.

Yet again, here we are, 2:20am PST on Tuesday, May 3rd.

Server Load18.12 (4 cpus)http://67.19.167.226:2082/green-status.gifMemory Used49.5 %http://67.19.167.226:2082/green-status.gif

The server load is wayyyyy to high, something is really going on that needs to get looked into. The gator11 server really, well honestly, sucks. It's needs some beefed up hardware. Please loook into this.

I'm having the same problem today. Anything over a server load of 8 and I'm out of business. I agree the server load is high but I'm starting to think there is a shortage of processing power on gator11. I decided to test this by going to control panel and doing a complete backup (tar) of my website. The server load went from a 6 to over 23 until the backup finished. During that period my website was almost unresponsive. As soon as the backup finished the server load went back down and I could access my site as normal. Try this test for yourself and see if you get the same results.

There must be a problem with the hardware or there is a problem with the configuration of server software that would allow something as simple a backup process to bring the server to it's knees. I know doing a tar backup takes a lot of resources from a server but there should be someway to throttle the backup process so it doesn't hog up all the resources of the server.

With all the problems there has been with the Mustang server I'm sure most everyone maintaining a website will want to backup there sites more often. Now, after seeing what a simple backup can do to bring gator11 to a stand still, I feel like I'm shutting down my own site. IF everyone on the server backs up on a regular basis (it is obvious you should after reading the posts by those on Mustang) then it will be an ongoing problem with slow server response.

So, what is the answer? I don't know for sure. It is up to HostGator to correct the problems with gator11. I believe they have an obligation to us to provide what is needed to correct server problems like this.

Brent, I would like to hear from you on this matter with an explanation of what is going to be done to give us the service we pay for.

Yah, I opened a ticket last night and got a stupid responce of "the server is able to handle many requests.". Basically a responce that didnt make any sense.

Yah, your right if one .tar brings the server down, how about 5,10,20 people doing .tar backups all at the same time, during peak hours? That would be the end of it. How many people do you think they have on gator11?

REALLY start to look elsewhere for hosting. Can we get an idea of CPU power is running on gator11? How much cache on the chip, ram?

THanks!

Sweet.

1:22am PST, May 4th.

The server load reached: 42.10 (RED) and apache (RED) is completely down.

Are we trying for the high score? Lets see if we can get the load to 100, would we get to advance to the bonus round? No acutally, I think I'll just advance to different hosting.
