I can't post in the other forums so I am posting here.
All week, and I mean all week, over and over again, multiple times a day, sometimes litterally within 2 minutes of HG support telling me it's been taken care of, I have gotten this error: Warning: mysql_connect(): Too many connections in /home/XXXX/public_html/XXXX/database.php on line 19 Unable to connect to database server! Now just to be clear, I am not using persistant connections, and multiple support people have verified with me that it is not a script on my account causing this trouble, but another script on another account. So far everytime this has happened that I have noticed, and litterally it's been 20+ times this week, HG support has told me they have restarted mysql and it should be fine. But the problem comes back minutes later. Now I understand there is a limit of 25 connections, but I thought it was per mysql user, not for the whole server. Why would someone else's script be causing this error on my end, and if it keeps happening, why has this account not been notified or turned off until they fix the script causing this issue? I really find HG to be a good value for the speed and amount of space and bandwidth we get, but this one error makes the rest of it worthless. I have 2 accounts, both on different servers, the other account has never had this error and is a shinning example of what HG can be. But this newer account on the g35 server has been a nightmare of mysql connection issues. Any help with this? Should I look into changing to a different HG server for this site? Thank you for any feedback, I appreciate it. I love HG hosting, but this situation is putting a dark cloud on it. |

I'm having this same issue. 25 seems to low and needs to be raised. Ever other host out there has more than 25 why doesn't HG? I never had this issue on any of my other hosts!

I don't know if this relates at all, but while I was transitioning to here I discovered that a 3rd party app I installed via Fantastico under cPanel (I think it may have been either WebCalendar or WordPress) had persistent connections enabled by default; I appeared to hit the limit rather quickly while just checking the installation. I found and disabled that, and haven't had any issues since.
If my understanding is correct (HG/Support: please correct me if I'm wrong), the 25 connection limit isn't really an issue unless you have > 25 simultaneous connections to the db. You could potentially have significantly more people using a site, as long as they all didn't "hit" the db at the same time.
