It would be good if we had some features like what the website www.readnotify.com offers.
It would be good to know when a email was read, how often its opened, was it deleted, and many other features. The simple read option on Outlook or Thunderbird is not any good as users can choose whether not to click received, but this other option would do it all secretly. The features i would love to have as an option would be:

If you send an email the email is sent by the mailserver and when it's successfully sent there is no way to know any of those things in your list. I suggest you read, for example, this: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r200...m-looks-unique and this : http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,10562313

yes you can get all those things, have a look at the site www.readnotify.com
I have used it in the past and its good to see who opened it, when and how often. they can never deny not receiving email again. I sent an email to someone and they denied receiving it, after I saw that they had and forwarded it to someone else they admitted they had received it and ignored it. a feature like this should be on c-panel or hostgator acccounts. 1. it's possible to receive and read and forward and do whatever you want to do with the email without the sender to know it. 2. I find it totally unethical to even try to spy what and when I do with the emails I get.

In any case, there is no need for any added cPanel functions to allow email senders to REQUEST receipts, and most email client applications will provide notifications of any such requests. Whether they are acknowledged or not is up to the recipient.
Are you suggesting that email recipients should not have any notification and no option? If so, I agree with quietFinn. |

I agree with quietFinn as well. If you don't want someone to know, then you should be able to hide that you read the email. Lots of times I find myself glancing over an email just to see what the person is writing about and often can't respond back right away, so I just mark it as unread to come back to. In this case, I wouldn't want them to know that I read the email yet as they may think I am ignoring them, when in fact I am just busy and will get back to them when I get a moment.

the choice should still be there whether you use or agree with it or not.
many times you do not even know if emails are received as if your IP blacklisted you dont get bounced emials so you never know if they got it or not. this feature would allow you to make sure its been sent and received. |

Perhaps some recipients are filtering your domain(s) into a black hole? Like the others who've responded, I think anything beyond a simple receipt--if that-- seems like email torture. I'd also think that such tracking would quickly defeat its functional purpose in that as soon as any sender tried to prove a point with it, a lot of people would immediately choose to stop receiving that sender's mail.

I agree with striddy-- the stats available with this kind of service are not nearly as reliable/accurate as you think they are.

I don't do anything against the law and I have nothing to hide. I do object most strongly to even more unwarranted snooping into what and when I do things. If I ever find that an organisation is using something like that I would not only blacklist them, but would be willing to put quite a bit of effort into making sure that everyone on the planet knew what they were doing.
As fanfavorite said sometimes you are just to busy dealing with other high priority things to read and action an email straight away. I do however try to at least give it a quick once over just in case it is a major issue that needs dealing with instantly. If it is not urgent it will be moved into one of several subfolders depending on the degree of urgency I decide on for it.
