I just purchased a webhosting plan. I've copied my site's files to my home computer and I'm ready to do a transfer of files myself via FTP. Normally I use IE's FTP but I downloaded CORE FTP for this task. I created a login on my cpanel's ftp accounts page. So, when I opened CORE, I used that login info and I used the IP given to me in my welcome email. But I'm having trouble connecting to my site's file manager. Core isn't showing any directories. I attempted to upload some files and they transfered but they aren't showing up in my root cpanel. Weird. Help, anyone?

You should connect using your cPanel username and password in CoreFTP. You should then see your folders listed.

IMO, if you're the only person FTPing stuff to your site, creating other accounts can be more trouble than they're worth.

thanks for the replies. with the help of live chat, i was able to connect (though for unknown reasons). seems the CORE program has a slight flaw. i can connect thru IE's FTP with no problem.

Vivien, if I might suggest....
Give Filezilla a try. (Personally speaking, IE's implementation of FTP has been nothing but a headache for me over the years.) |

FileZilla is free, or at least it was the last time I used it. What problem did you have with CoreFTP? I use it nearly daily on my sites both here and at work.

I also use Core...many FTP problems are because the terminology varies between what they use and what cPanel may use. Account and user may, for example, mean the same thing, or they may be different.
Anyway, here's a link to Filezilla. FileZilla - The free FTP solution

Thanks for the link..
One prob I was having with Core was getting a connection and a consistent connection. Then, issues arose with directories 'sometimes' appearing and something not. Lots of crashing, etc. It was a mess. |

as a followup for others who may have a similar issue as I did...
File Zilla works perfectly! 100% better than IE's FTP or CORE. |

I had the same problem before.. I found out that I had to change my page name from main.html to index.html. Go figure..

Abel,
What part of "stop posting offsite images disguised as Forum smileys" don't you understand? Post reported. |
