Default FTP Clients

I just wanted to get your opinions on FTP clients. I have used several different clients at one time or another, but tired of downloading trials, etc. The only licensed FTP client that I have is Wise_FTP and it leaves much to be desired. Let us know which you think is best and why.

Hmm, looks like SmartFTP is leaving the others in the dust so far. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that they have a free version available? I'm not opposed to buying one if it's perfomance and features are worth it, but wanted to get some feedback before I went that route.

Does anyone know if we can use FXP (File eXchange Protocol) on our HG accounts? That would make transfering sites from another host simpler just FTP server to FTP server directly.

Thanks for the responses so far, keep 'em coming...

David

Cool Re: FTP Clients

Total Commander (formerly windows commander) Does most everything exept chmod. (unless you do it manually by command line). Also this doubles as a windows explorer replacement. It will also views hidden & system files on remote servers.

It has built in zip, ace, rar, tar, arj, uc2, gz, lha, tgz. and supports a world of other add on compression plugsins.
Has built in file viewers for many text & graphics formats and supports pluggins for what is not built in on that front too.

The shareware version is fully functional and never expires and is on a donate to remove nag screen type basis. The nag screen appears 1 time at program start and I have been using since version 1. (before the time of windows95) This is a very mature file manipulation tool.

I use it for most everything I have to do. FTP or otherwise.

It can be obtained from www.ghisler.com .

Total Commander rocks !!

On the rare occassion that I do have to chmod I use reachout super ftp. (an oldie but goodie)

( no I don't work for ghisler.com but I do preach for them everytime I get a chance.)

The only ftp client I've used is WS FTP Home. I'm happy with it. Then again, I don't have a lot of experience with ftp, so I look forward to seeing what everyone else has to say.
