Angry Frustration -trying to transfer WordPress from Dreamhost

help- I am totally frustrated with this - I moved to hostgator because I was told their reseller account was the best - but I am missing the functionality of Dreamhost - for upgrades
I am on a reseller a/c if that matters
I have one domain running latest wp2.5 but WPG2 won't reinstall - I have an error that I need to reinstall gallery 2 (using fantastico) which I did successfully - but I can't see anyway of accessing my existing photos?
I probably should have upgraded the existing install but that wasn't going to work because it was looking for a path that cant exist on HG and probably the mysql db name would be wrong too
I really don't want to add all my photos again- its OK for this domain will only take a day but
my other domain has probably 1000 photos and I really can't recreate it I don' have a good record of which photos I used where - and if I can't bring this domain over I think I will just give up on hostgator and take everything back to dreamhost
the 2nd domain is wp2.3 - I can't even see how to upgrade this -on dreamhost its a 1 click: doesn't cpanel have the same thing? fantastico doesn't even think there is a wordpress install running! Surely cpanel which is supposed to be so great must have 1 click installs?
I no these sound like stupid dumb questions but yes I have searched the forum and the knowledgebase and nothing is said about upgrading wp let alone gallery or WPG2

I can't believe that I am the only person who has ever moved a wp blog with pictures over to hg?

Suggest you submit a support ticket to HG. Keep your help requirements clear and concise and I'm sure they will help as best as they can.

Can't you just download the files from wordpress.org, upload them and then manually upgrade by going to domain.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php ?

I know you're probably not going to want to hear this, but this sounds like a good time for you to switch over to nextgen-gallery using the slimbox wordpress plugin.

Obviously it will take time, but it's worth the investment. Nextgen takes a little time to get used to in the first place, but once done... you'll never switch away. I used wpg2 and hated it.

What's the url of the WordPress installation that you want to move to Hostgator?

its very easy... move the wordpress file to HG server first.
then download the dreamhost wordpress database, export it.. and then import to hg mysql database.

now, at the HG wordpress .. connect to the HG mysql that you import just now. Done.

good luck.

Is that one of those hidden image things we have been hearing about lately in othellobloke's signature?

Yes, but IMO there's a lot that makes it different from the problematic ones. It's in a signature, the path doesn't seem to indicate spam or a commercial/search engine motive, he's an established member and the post is obviously not for the sole purpose of getting the invisible image up. (One of the most annoying aspects of much of the invisible image/link stuff here was the meaningless posts in which they were placed.)

Not saying that any one of those would make the practice OK, but if there's a continuum, it would be at the other end from the double-banned member's.

Yes and no. Yes, it's a broken image but, no, I don't think he's trying to cause any mischief. It's an image that was probably valid at one time, but is now gone, from the site he references in his sig. Look at the site, if you want to read a tragic story of abuse.

(And before anyone takes umbrage, I'm not pointing fingers. The USA treated it's Natives just as horribly.)

Very nicely put, RV. Worth noting that some settings of some browsers show broken images as broken, in others invisible and broken images both show nothing.
