As a webmaster with a local polluting factory tryng to sue me, or threaten part of my website with legal writs, were do I stand if relocate?
There is no abusive content and I've already reworded various articles, but does hostgator host websites with possible controversial issues being highlighted? My prevous host 1&1 acted fair, but cave in like many if so much as a lawyers letter heads there way. The controversy is limited to a particular factory, nothing else. Hope to have a reply. Regards Mr Gagged U.K. |

In theory, you shouldn't have a problem if you are only telling the truth. It can't be inuendo, must be based upon proven facts. Just publish the data without editorial content and let the readers figure out the politics.
Large corporation usually have deep pockets and lawyers on staff. They can beat most of us ordinary folks into pulp. If you can get news media on your side you would have a better chance. What kind of issue do you have with the factory? Jeff |

Thanks for the reply Jeff
No politics, I'm not a politician - but local politicians have called for it to be closed. Website is re pollution, and is a bit toungue in cheek at times, but its a serious issue and i use photo, reports, video and all sorts of contributions from locals. 99% of us want the factory closed. No threats or suchlike are made. I'll be 100% honest and admit we have had UK lawyers point to some material and threaten another webshost, but pay a solicitor a buck and they'll say anything! My own local council also got another of my websites basically deleted on some free webspace off my ISP. Never ever heard what the comments were! I've duly removed 'offensive' material re this polluting factory, and am not looking to cause trouble. I suppose I'm doing what many might do if a polluting factory [they have been in court and fined on 9 accounts] moved next door to you! There is a lot about the USA I don't pariculary like, but I'd abide by the spirit of the 1st ammendment and not be looking to abuse. Our grandads might have fought together to protect freedom of speech - sadly, we lost our freedom of speech online in the UK in 1999, when a landmark case found the webhost 'daemon' as liable for comment posted on a message board they hosted. That comment was defamous - but the authors webhost was found to be 'guilty'. Thats England right now. Thats why I'm looking to find a webhost in the USA Cheers! |

You and your site sound very reasonable. I would certainly support your right to express your point of view.
