Hi All:
Any ideas about what may be causing the forum experience here (and other places with vBulletin forums) to start out nice and fast, but very shortly turn in to a full series of timeouts? It's kind of weird. I'm in the process of becoming an HG customer, but am wary about the weirdness that may cause trouble when seeking advice/help, etc. I've been trying to come up with ideas, and one that came to mind was the ATT DNS service, so originally, I tried OpenDNS.org but it didn't seem to make a difference. Now I've tried a sideways attempt and am using a beefed up Hosts file from MVPS. Of course this is just a wild guess, but I couldn't find ways around my other guesses about PHP or javascript causing some weirdness with the Sun Java stuff. Tks, Mike edit: It just happened again while trying to read this message after posting it. I logged off (not a restart) and back on again, and the speed returned. I also noticed that not all the pictures/icons seem to be loading on the threads & pages after a while, just before the connection freezes up and times out. Oh, yes - I'm using ATT Fast Access DSL (was BellSouth b4 ATT bought it) with a router/firewall, MSIE v7, WinXP-sp2. Last edited by mikesmithfl; 02-08-2008 at 08:12 PM. |

Hmmm... I'm not seeing any issues and I'm fairly close to you, so I suspect it is your system or very local to you.
I'd look at the virus scanner you are using, see if disabling it makes surfing faster. I'd also run a speed test and see what you dl speed is. |

We have no issues on either of our AT&T dsl connects here in GA. The forum usually performs quickly. You may want to do some testing on your connection.

Hi, Thanks. I tried disabling the AV and tested the DL speeds, I'm normally getting up to 340KBps. I did notice another peculiarity. If I proceed through the forums in one window/one tab and don't switch back and forth between tabs and use only the page navigation displayed on each page, everything seems to work OK. When I open new windows and/or tabs, things go downhill quickly and eventually lock up with a time-out.
I'll just have to remember to stay in one tab. Mike |
