Herb's suggestion in Shared Hosting about enabling search-by-phrase prompted me to start this thread about ways the forum could be even more wonderful. Keeping them all together may (or may not) make it easier for the forum tenders, if they ever have the time and or inclination to adapt any.
One thing that used to annoy me: the FAQ link in the forum nav bar leads to questions about HG and HG accounts instead of about the forum itself. Forum FAQs, a bunch of which are probably somewhere in the vBulletin docs, would include: Where do I edit my account details? Its twin, why does my private info show... A question answered with "you can see posts going back longer by changing..." What's the forum spam policy? How do I get activated? What does being activated get me? Why are some posts way too wide? Where should I post my question? Am I allowed to include outside links? Am I allowed to tell forum members about the ___ I sell? Am I allowed to ask forum members if anybody wants a ___ job or service? What do those little Yahoo logos and the other thingies in the upper right corner of some members' details mean and where do I...? How do I stay logged in? What's the multi-quote icon and how do I...

Good point; someone went to some trouble to change the FAQ pointer, so I guess they want it that way.
I'm mostly annoyed by the single fixed-width style. The only reason to use a fixed width style is so that you can put ads down the sides, so it makes no sense to at least offer us a choice. |
