Default Forum Activation delay

Does anyone know how long it takes to activate the forum account? I signed up about 8 hours ago and I'm still waiting to get the account activated. I've sent an email to Wesley and also a priv message, and nothing yet.

I'm trying to move my accounts from my old hosting account to HG and nothing is being done. I've just about given up and decided to do it myself since my sites are down. Having some problems with this and just need my account activated so I can get help with it.

Forum activation and your HG account activation are two different things.

Have you gotten your HG welcome email, which indicates your hosting account is active? If that doesn't give instructions for the move, there's a form here:

site transfer form

As for forum activation, that happens once your hosting account is active.

IMO, eight hours is a little early to be getting impatient about either HG moving your site or forum activation.

Time for the forum's universal advice: have a cup of tea or cocoa and get some sleep. Things will look better in the morning.

I know forum activation and account setup are 2 different things. My account was set up fairly quickly and 4 of the 5 tickets I opened were addressed within a reasonable time frame. I just find it odd that we have to wait far longer to get a forum account activated than to get the main account set up. Perhaps I'm being impatient, but as I said, my sites are down and I'm trying to access the forum so I can fix issues myself.

I've already submitted the transer form - in fact, I had to submit it twice because I did not receive a confirmation email or acknowledgment after the original request.

If you have had 4 or 5 tickets answered within 8 hours of joining I say that is great support from HG.

The forum account will likely take a day or so and as you already know is a totally separate thing.

When you say your sites are down, just post your help question here for now and I'm sure the forum members will do what they can to assist you.

Well, I did not realize how disconnected the forum was from the support site. Had I known it was a 24hr lag, I would have just waited patiently.

As far as problems I'm having, I requested that my sites be transferred about 16 hours ago. I made the request twice because I did not receive a confirmation when I submitted my ticket. I resubmitted the ticket and a confirmation was received. It was not until about 8 hours later that I received an email from the support desk stating they were really busy and someone would take care of the request. That's fine - as long as I know the ticket is not stuck in a black hole somewhere.

This morning, I received an email from the support desk stating the transfer process had begun. It's been 2 hours and not a meg of data has been moved. I know, I know, the transfer process does not mean the data flow will take place right away. It's just that last night, I read up about transferring sites and was able to take backups of all the sites and move them over to my new site. I was not sure how to complete the import process so I left it as is.

Just to be clear, this is not knocking the HG team. I'm just impatient and generally take care of things on my own. If it's something new to me, I make the effort to figure it out. I contacted the support staff and asked about importing and both people said something like 'let our staff do it - it shouldn't take too long'. I guess I should have asked for their definition of 'too long'.

I joined the forum on May 14th. My account was just activated today, after I opened a Support Ticket on the matter (last night).

This is an area that needs improvement.
