Default fix the favicon.ico

Your favicon.ico for the forums is still http://forums.hostgator.com/favicon.ico. This makes me http://www.skywarnonline.com/forums/...lies/frown.gif. Can you make it http://www.hostgator.com/favicon.ico? I like keeping my favorite sites linked in my FF toolbar.

Edit: Crap... forgot you guys have images turned off.

Good point. Something had been bothering me for ages but I wasn't sure what it was. Now I see it's the standard vbulletin icon instead of the gator!

But then, I'm not too sure it would change for me on my FF favorites bar even if they changed it today.

Once I know a site has changed its favicon I usually take a few seconds and delete the link and rebookmark it.

A hassle? Yeah, but I usually sit at the computer for several hours. What's a few seconds to change a link, right?

Don't they suddenly appear in Firefox's bookmark pane when you go there again? That's what usually happens to me, without rebookmarking.

PS Chimpy, it's only offsite images, and only if posted in the public categories.

Thanks Gwyneth.

As far as FF bookmark icons updating automatically, for some sites it does it automatically, sometimes it doesn't update at all.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I didn't mean they did it automatically--just if a bookmark hadn't had one because the site didn't, and then the site gets one, when you use that bookmark again the favicon shows up.

PS I greatly miss the HG alligator--it made it easier to find links to threads.

I'll send this thread our lead designers way.

I'm pretty sure there is no restriction on it in the VB license but I am not 100% sure(I don't see why we couldn't).

He is already out for the day so he probably won't be looking into this until tomorrow.

The favicon doesn't even show for me in FF.

That could be something to do with my works proxy though, as the one on my site only shows half the time when I'm here

Please, for gods sake, can you also ask them to change the forum marking while they're at it? Darned difficult to participate like this.

If you are using Firefox:
Tired of that boring default icon next to your bookmarks? This extension adds an interface allowing you to pick the icon for each of your bookmarks.

there's not. vb doesn't require you to maintain their favicon.

I believe it disappeared when HG updated the forum several versions ago, from ?.? to ?.?...so maybe the template system, and thus the favicon's relative linked location, changed.

PS: The geniuses at HTML-Kit, who produced the original online favicon converter tool, have come up with:

FavIcon validator

Mark, if Microsoft had its way, I bet favicons would be 120 x 120 pixels, large enough for a small TM down in the corner.

LOL...... True, but that icon COULD be made bigger.

I mean, look at the PayPal site.

That is hilarious I guess W3C validation isn't enough for some people.

It does sound funny, but it's more useful than it may seem--lots of newbies have trouble with getting the link and location correct, and the tool, which looks at a URL, can help.

With the recent update to 3.8.4 the favicon has defaulted back to the vB icon.

So it has.

Looks like the powers-that-be didn't save it ahead of time.

But I'm betting it will be back.

Mine looks normal. I mean, it's not the vb favicon. Besides, aren't we seeing the favicon from the root folder, not from the forum/ folder? So a vb upgrade wouldn't affect it.

No, since the forums are on a subdomain, it pulls the favicon from there.
