We had been with a different web host for some time (won't say names but "I" would not say they were "power"ful). The problem we faced was the database server we were on was overloaded. We only have one database for our store and it is not very big. For the last year, off and on, we would have server time outs, resets, our customers could never get on or would get bumped out, etc. The fear was spending money and time to move.
Well, I wish I would have moved a year ago. Tonight, when the dns was pointing in the right direction, we tested our online store. I was jumping through pages like there was nothing to it. We used to count, 1001, 1002 etc. and sometimes stopped counting by 1 minute. Now, I barely get out the "1000.." I had some minor fixes that I needed help with and the chat support was awesome. They were patient, informative and in the end helped me resolve my problem and didn't tell me "my problem was moved to tier 2 and I will hear from them in a few days". We used to get that message all the time and then tier 2 would say the database had a lot of customers and connection was not guaranteed. Really? Thank you hostgator, if our site stays like it is right now, you have a customer for life!!!!! Happily, Kelly

I had to add to my own post, I am in shock actually. I had a tiny problem with my store after our move. I didn't think that tech support would know the answer so I contacted a forum for the software of the store we have. They gave me some ideas.
I did end up contacting hostgator support...the poor guy who helped me, after a lot of time spent with me only asking questions based on the suggestions of others, he was answering me as best he could and then asked what exactly was happening, when I told him, he took a minute (or less) and fixed the problem. The problem was no where that the store forum people suggested. But, I have NEVER EVER actually talked to a live chat tech support person that understood this much about php, oscommerce, scripts, etc. Hostgator's tech support is AMAZING with the questions I have needed answers to. Another day in the land of HAPPY Hosting!!! THANK YOU AGAIN HOSTGATOR. (why are we so happy?? because our old hosting company would never have helped us - never would have had any answers, would have sent us off to "tier 2" who would have sent me an e-mail with a lame answer and then offered to charge me a higher premium if I wanted a better answer) ah, I have so much more time to spend doing other things now and not babysitting a store that is not working. Thanks again!
