Default A few questions

I am considering getting a aluminium reseller package and a I have a few questions:

1. Will I be able to use PEAR in my PHP code?

2. Is safemode on or off?

3. Do you know if Mambo CMS runs ok on your setup?

4. Do you allow overselling?

5. Where are your servers based?

Sorry if these have been answered before but I cannot search as an unregistered user.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Hi there Mark, the only question I can not answer is the first one. That you would have to email support@hostgator.com for a quick answer, we may even be able to install it if it is not available.

PHP Safemode is off on our servers.

We do not allow overselling, you can read an explanation at www.hostgator.com/overselling.shtml

Our servers are based at ThePlanet located in Texas, USA. More information on that is available at www.hostgator.com/company.shtml

Hope this helps you, and we hope you decide to take an account with us!

Yes. If a Pear package is not available you can ask support to have it installed serverwide or install it yourself for your own account.

I am trying to run Smarty and getting a blank page. It looks like it is a pear db issue. I think I may need pear included in the path statement in php.ini. Does this make sense?

Thanks

You can't change the php.ini on a shared server. The path to the serverwide PEAR libs should already be in there.
If you added specific pear libs in your own account, you could add something like this to the php page using the lib:

<?php
$currincl_path = ini_get("include_path");
ini_set("include_path", "$currincl_path:/home/yourname/pear/lib");
?>

You can also ask support to have specific pear libs installed on your server.

Stef.

Both Mambo and Joomla CMS run great on HG servers. I've tried both of them.

Please note: HostGator does not allow overselling, they do however oversell their products.

My question is how do you compete with other hosting companies if you can't oversell?

That is a good question. You really can't unless you have a dedicated server. The only way I make sales is by selling dedicated servers and by selling hosting to people who know nothing about the hosting market and will be happy as long as I have a live chat system.
