Ok my first questions are related to vBulletin. Does the Hatching Package allow me to install vBulletin? Also does anyone know how I do this?
Can I use my domain with HostGator which is registerd with another company? After a lot of reaserch, I found HostGator and HawkHost to be the favoured hosters. Convince me why should use this site rather than HawHost (good experinece and bad experinence welcome)? P.S. The live support would not work for me. I am using Opera. |

The answers to your first two questions are yes.
For the last, just browse the "reviews" section on this forum. You'll find a lot of reviews, both good and bad.

Thanks. I assume you mean "Can I use my domain with HostGator which is registerd with another company?" is a yes.
Is there anywhere I can learn how to install vBulletin on the site. Also, do you know why the live support doesn't work for me? |

You can install vBulletin, and you can use a domain registered anywhere with a hostgator hosting account.
vBulletin installation instructions are provided with vBulletin. It's usually just uploading files, making a database (this is easy in cPanel) and changing a few elements in the files. Again, the full instructions will come with your vBulletin installation, and there's plenty of threads on the vBulletin boards around installing vBulletin on a cPanel server. Live support is using software from a 3rd party company. Maybe they haven't tested with Opera? What happens if you try Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer?

vBulletin just uses MySQL needed to install, so you can easily do that yourself without problems.

the staff at vbulletin will also install for you, for a fee. but the instructions are pretty straightforward and it's not difficult to install yourself.

Vbulletin is easy to install IMHO,
http://iphonez4free.info/images.jpgI have it on a few domains hereI'd recomend the 2nd package for shared hosting, cant remember what the name is right now haha http://iphonez4free.info/goimage.jpg ![]() I would go with hostgator definetly, I've heard better things about them and the support is AMZING! |

Cal-- why are you hiding images to iphonez4free [dot] info in your posts that just redirect to referrer links? If you want to promote, do it in your signature, not with a hidden link.

Yuck, that's kind of creepy. Matt, how did you discover that? I could see them, via Firefox's Web Developer's toolbar, but only after you mentioned it. If we could give negative reputation, I'd be tempted.

Safari is showing them as broken links. There are a number of new members doing it, and I've been contacting some via PM to ask them to stop. This time though, enough is enough.

i'd wondered what all the broken images were, but not enough to view the source...i guess people are hoping to help their rankings by linkbacks from well-placed sites?
on a forum like this where you're allowed personal links in your sigs, i really don't understand the point.

Maybe because a broken link doesn't eat any bandwidth and the user still gets credit.... its just silly no matter what.

That could explain the high number of virtually meaningless responses some of them have posted--I see one has been banned for whatever reason.

That particular one was one of the worst offenders. Posted nonsense on almost every thread.

I was glad to see an example made there. Joined in late April and looks like he was just posting to run up his post count. Every post was one or two sentences.

Matt, Rick, David,
Absolutely amazing how efficient communication here can be. Telepathy? The forum equivalent of signaling bridge partners? |

Could HG have cleaned up his posts here? They didn't say much, but I just looked at a few and didn't see anything offensive.

![]() For those of you who have been here a while, have there been many banned in the past? Being a forum I'm assuming there has.

He had a url in his signature (which was not a site hosted with HG) that it looks like someone removed. I didn't see anything offensive either but the posts were rather annoying.

Yes, but that's usually applied when people say the same thing. All four of us were on cue without being specific (until Rick's search).
Not in the past two years...this is the second example I can remember (not counting any fleeting spammers whose entire output was removed). Last edited by gwyneth; 05-21-2008 at 10:43 PM. |

from what i've seen, they don't do much banning here. i would assume the nonsensical posting along with the broken image spam link, probably after being asked to drop it, was a bit much for the admins.
