Default A few Q's from a UK potential user

Hi,

My situation is that I have about 15 small (most about 5 page) websites that I look after for clients. They are all hosted with one company at the moment. I am considering the reseller package with HG.

1) Is this the right thing to consider?
2) Is migration of 15 sites and setting up of the accounts going to be a headache or a walk in the park?
3) Can anyone reccommend the best/quickest/easiest/cheapest method for me to be able to accept online payments. This is one feature that really appeals to me as I travel a lot and I hate manual invoicing...!
4) Could an individual site have its own price plan?
5) If I use the reseller website builder would it allow a potential customer to set-up and pay for their own web-space through me - without any intervention from me?
6) If a customer needs to change the MX record can I do this?
7) Am I correct in thinking I should start with the basic reseller package and upgrade if needed - or am I missing something?
8) If I wanted to install some scripts that aren't currently offered - can I do this? I'm thinking of movabletype for example.

Thanks in advance for help with any of this!

Best,

Dan.

1) Yes.
2) Depends if HG moves them or not. If HG moves them for you, easy. If not, it depends on your skill, but still easy for most people.
3) Authorize.net. I believe they work for UK billing.
4) Yes. Have 15 if you'd like.
5) Yes, with a UK billing company.
6) I can't tell you for sure, I'd say yes, but if you can't HG can change it for you. (I can change MX records)
7) Yes, start as small as you can.
8) Not on the smaller plans, but it depends on the scripts, some yes, some no. The dedicated and semidedicated have less restrictions.

Thank you so much for the reply - very helpful.

3) Unfortunately authorize.net only accept US accounts - I guess PayPal is the way forward?

5) Would new accounts bought from me be set-up automatically (thus allowing immediate access for a new client) - or do they have to be manually set-up by me through the WHM?

6) Do HG charge for this sort of thing?

8) Where do I find out more about this? I know I'd like to use Movable Type (www.MovableType.org)

From the movable type website:
A Web (HTTP) server that can run Perl CGI (Common Gateway Interface) scripts and optionally PHP scripts.
Perl version 5.004_05 or greater is required. Version 5.6.1 or above is recommended.
Either Berkeley DB, MySQL, SQLite or PostgreSQL for data storage.
External (CPAN) Perl Modules

Movable Type requires the follow Perl modules to operate.
* CGI version 2.8 or greater
* HTML::Template version 2.0 or greater
* File::Spec version 0.8 or greater
* Image::Size

You are also required to have at least one of the following database modules.
* DB_File
* DBD::mysql
* DBD::SQLite
* DBD::Pg

Movable Type's capabilities can be further enhanced with the presence of several other Perl modules that support optional features.
* HTML::Entities
* File::Temp
* Storable
* LWP
* SOAP::Lite version 0.5 or greater
* XML::Atom
* Crypt:SA
* MIME::Base64
* Image::Magick

Movable Type ships with all required and optional modules that do not require compilation for your specific platform.

PHP 4.0.6 or greater along with the Smarty Template Engine and ezSQL libraries.

9) How are they on price changes? If prices fall (or specs increase) do they pass this on to existing customers? I notice the current offer of a free billing manager is being offered at $5 to their existing customers (and I'd me mad about that if I were them).

Thanks again,

Dan.

You can set up WHM Autopilot to create the accounts automatically (but I don't recommend it because of fraud).

With a reseller package you can change MX records yourself.

You can run MT, no problem. I have one on my reseller account. If you ever find a Perl module missing you can ask support to install it on your server.

When you signup, the price you pay will be what you pay for the rest of your time with HG (if you keep the same package), even if the price changes.[/quote]
