Default A few pre-sale questions

I'm new to this whole webhosting thing and I have a few questions

1)Can anyone list some of the stuff that are resource hogs?
2)How much bandwith and diskspace do forums take up? (Lets say the forum currently has 127 memberes)

Hmm, I think that's all.

Resource hogs tend to be scripts that make multiple and repeated calls to a database in a confined time period. For the most part, any general software you want to run that is relatively common will work on the HG servers - although I know IRC based and server-side chat are not allowed.... If you use your head, you won't run into a problem.

As for forums - you could easily have a hundred times that many members - and an active user base - and still not have any problems. Forums definitely aren't resource hogs as they're written. What usually causes problems is when someone tries to write their own code modification and messes up. I seem to remember someone was using persistent connections all the way through their code and that got them shut down REAL quick. It was just a mistake on their part, but it did cause the server load to go off the charts.

I have about 5 forums running under the same reseller account, and all of them have more than 127 members. I haven't had a single problem related to any of them. My ftp got hacked once and someone uploaded a phishing script, but that wasn't a load issue.....

Good Luck!

Great post above, and dead on.

Make sure you do not use mysql_pconnect() in any of your scripts, that will cause you to go over the sql limit.

As for forums, many forums are made very well. Some modifications are made poorly though, so just be careful what you install.
