I'm pretty new to all this but a couple of comments. A border of some description would be good to seperate the google ads from your site proper. It's a little busy in that area. Also your heading web_design tutorials needs to loose the underscore.

Another thing I dont have an answer for and my websites suffer the same is some sort of border design to soften the transition of the blue background to the white content. I'm not sure exactly what it needs and my sites are the same.

I like the layout for the most part, but on the left section of the page your "Ads by Google" seems to flow down the entire left column. They aren't but they look like they do when you first seem them. Maybe change the font color.
