Rails is as good as broken on CGI, according to many, and CGI is not as good as FastCGI. I have seen past suggestions, but did not find a valid reason as to why FastCGI is either not installed/enabled.
I would gladly use Mongrel, though I have absolutely no idea how to do so. |

You shouldn't be using mongrel on HG servers, and if you have a dedicated, don't expect to be getting support for it. HG servers are all running apache.
Not sure about FCGI.

There was an issue with fcgi and phpsuexec and apache 1
Whenever HG upgrades to apache 2, fcgi can play with suPHP from what it understand... I think that's how my dedicated is setup (or that's what I was trying to do anyways) |

Then why is Mongrel even installed as a gem?

Slapshot is talking mongrel as a web server (as opposed to apache)
I'm not sure how this differs for Mongrel as a gem |

Does that not mean that Mongrel itself will do FCGI, and thus, if you can install the Mongrel gem, you now have a selection of FCGI software via it?

According to an article I have found, it does not use FastCGI or SCGI. |
