Default Fantastico

I'm very disappointed to not see the SMF forums in fantastico. The last host i was with, they were included. Is this one not updated? I want to install SMF forums, and it's a lot easier to install it from fantastico, than having to upload the forums and install it like that.

This is also an issue for me, as I also wanted to try SMF on one of my sites.

The Fantastico version that came out about 6 weeks ago has both SMF and the updated phpBB2 (2.0.11). The Fantastico on my HG server is still at phpBB2 2.0.10 and no SMF.

I guess SMF is there. I see it as an option in my cpanel!

Perhaps they have updated some servers and not others? I just checked and SMF is not available on mine. I am on "Corvette".

When Fantastico upgrades, this should be available. Sadly Invision Board and YaBSEE* will be gone.

Fantastico has been supplying the upgraded version since November 19th, but apparently not all servers here have been upgraded.

Not so sad. The version of Invision they have been supplying is extremely insecure, and they are not allowed to distribute versions above 2.0, which fix the security holes. You (the end user) has to pay Invision for a license for version 2.x.

As for YaBBSE, that is a dead project. Those authors moved on and created Simple Machines, which the new Fantastico does supply. So SMF is basically a new and improved YaBBSE written by the same authors, but rewritten from the ground up and far better than YaBBSE. Reports are that it's the best forum program available now. (that's why I want to test it out)

Well, I would definitely say that it's the best free forum out there now, not sure about best overall. I have used YaBBSE and like what I see in SMF so far. I am getting ready to do an upgrade on an SE forum to SMF 1.0 Final. I'll let everyone know how things go, but from what I have read in their forums most are upgrading in a fairly painless manner. The main grumbles I have heard deal with the new template system that some feel is more difficult to use than the old SE template setup.

This is now available through upgrades, if you do not see this with in Fantastico requesting an upgrade by sending an email to the HG Support Department at: Support@HostGator.com can resolve the issue
