Default Fantastico & Magento

I've heard Blue Host are now offering an automatic install of Magento ecommerce platform via fantastico. This would be a great addition for HG resellers.

With regards to fantastico, it would be great to have the ability to have a fantastico feature edit for different packages - at the moment it is all or nothing.

There are plenty other great open source software now available; tracks, alfresco, etc. Some of which are very difficult to install and a script would be a wonderful addition.

Thanks Matt

You sure about that? It's not on the fantastico list.

Hi Striddy

You're right, it's not on fantastico but is on installatron which has some great apps like sugarCRM

Is it possible to have both installers?

Has anybody installed this on an HG server? It looks really appealing for the lifetime licence! Keeping 30 Joomla installs and 5 wordpress installs up to date is really getting time consuming... and I'm certainly not going to rely on Fantastico....

Unfortunately, Magento requires one thing that we do not provide on Shared/Reseller servers, and that is InnoDB tables in MySQL.

"Converting the tables to MyISAM is not recommended by Magento and their requirements state InnoDB be enabled for magento to work."

Unfortunately, Magento will not work if you are on a shared or reseller server.

You sure about that statement Thomas? InnoDB is available on my server.

Perhaps you are confused between InnoDB and MyISAM. Look like it by what you just said.

Yes it will. InnoDB is available and numerous people here have installed it here at HG.

Some servers do have it enabled, however it is only older servers, and only a handful at that. The quote was from an email sent out today to all staff. The policy at this time is that any server which does not have it will not get it. The reason for leaving it enabled on the servers which it is enabled on, is that as you can imagine, we would lose the business of those customers who already have tables in InnoDB if their application cannot work properly with MyISAM.

I just finished a chat session with HostGator technical support and understand InnoDB tables in mySQL are now fully supported. Magento is now an option for HostGator accounts, although it's not integrated with Fantastico yet.

Can anyone from hostgator staff confirm this for us? Does HG indeed now support all of the specifications for Magento on shared/reseller accounts?

Yes, Magento works on our servers now. All servers have InnoDB tables enabled.

What about Alfresco? I'm trying to find a Content management solution that allows me to organize my projects and sites that I work on for various clients, rather than hoping my portable hard drive doesn't crash before I can back it up :s

This has been enabled on our shared/reseller boxes at this time and magento is supported on our servers as per our compatible technologies page located below.
