Default eyeOS

Hey folks!

I was able to install the eyeOS without much hassle on hostgator.com
Check it out (create your own user) at http://nadie4ever.com/eyeOS/ and furthermore, check the "Applications" section

Anyway, as I see it the new generation of operating systems is working flawlessly in our beloved hosting. Maybe we could offer this as an optional thing. eyeOS is released under GNU v3 or so, so I think it will be possible to automatize the process (you only have to upload it and get to its folder, and a few very easy steps later it will be up and running).

In my user I even uploaded some mp3s that are now working with the embedded mp3 player. Please refrain from uploading much stuff into my server, xD.

I recommend this to everyone who has an hostgator account. It is not for being cool or modern or anything. This is simple the future and you better learn it right now

Do you know anything about the server resource usage of this product?

It's not much. It's all php and javascript. It consumes more resources on the client's side than on the server. In the end it's the client's browser the one who has to render everything.

Of course, if many people star uploading their mp3s and listening to them... then the server will be making way too many accesses to the hard drives. At any rate, not many people will use this function at all. This will be the Web 3.0, but we still need more time developing it.

I think the jury's still out on this whole concept of moving the desktop online.

Just last week Verizon screwed something up and our office was offline for nearly a week! But then, being offline meant those people had to work from home where they were online, so it's a wash.

I won't say it can't happen, but I'd be surprised if it does in my lifetime.

This doesn't look very secure. Client side or server side. The only i thing i could see this being good for is piracy. But we'll see what the future brings.
