A short while ago I tried to register a second domain through cpanel on my first site. After going through Registry Rocket and filling out my purchase info and clicking to confirm, I received an error message, revealing that I had forgotten to put the correct card expiration date.

No problem, I thought, correcting this and clickign again. This time, I received a different error. But in the corner my email popped up, notifying me that I'd received a payment confirmation email from PayPal. Sure enough, I'd been charged my $15.

Yet I am unable to log in using the information I used, and when I check the domain, it still shows itself as available for purchase. Any help at all with this would be great.

Im wondering if it takes this long to simply edit permissions in VB to give access to more than the sales/presales forums, whats it going to be like when Im hosting a reseller account here and I have a problem? This is a reflection on HG support and right now, Im not too happy with it. i do have an open mind, though, and I am willing to forgive and forget but something needs to be done pretty fast.:gatorshrug::banghead:

I've got a few questions before I buy a hosting package. Hope to get some guidance so I know how to proceed.

My situation, and my goal:

I've got hosting somewhere else for one domain with multiple subdomains that I created with NVU, as well as two other sites (WordPress), each with its own domain and hosting. I'm paying too much in hosting each individually. I'd like to host them all in one place and save some $$ too.

My questions:

1. Is the Baby hosting plan the most indicated for me? I want a plan that can host unlimited domains so each one displays an independent website.

2. If so, I understand that I must choose one of my domains as the primary to register the account. Does it make any difference which one I choose?

3. How will I add on the other two domains (and subsequent ones I may get later on)?

4. Will I still be able to create subdomains every now and then within the Baby plan?

5. Will I get help transferring all files from the domain/site I choose as a primary, including the cPanel, SQL databases, and all files? And how long does this take?

6. Does the Baby plan support WordPress, and may I continue using NVU and Filezilla as my web authoring software and FTP client? Some of my sites are in WordPress, but others are still created with NVU.

Thank you for your help!
Just for your information, the PHP script that I want to run gathers data from an external API (data is returned in json format) and then it proceeds with a SQL insert/update.
I'm wondering if HostGator has similar restrictions and what they are. In addition, I'm considering the fact that maybe I do need a dedicated account.

Hey, All

I've been using Kiosk and Wealthy Affiliate hosting but have have canceled my accounts with them. I have a couple of existing domains that I will be hosting here. One I have already changed the nameservers on. My problem is with CPanel. The only Username/PWD I have are the ones I created when I purchased the hosting package(Baby). The welcome email sent me a link to my CPanel and a link to my site(which, of course, won't have anything on it). When I use the CPanel link, I get a dialog requesting a user name and password. My billing username/pwd doesn't work. The site link takes me to a page that has the CPanel icon and a number of different things on it. When I click the CPanel Icon I get the same thing as before.

How do I get the Cpanel info set up? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
I've already verified Host Gator's SSL cert will work just fine but I'm trying to find out if basic auth is configurable on your shared hosting.

From Google:
"You'll need to configure basic authentication on this server to accept your Merchant ID and Merchant Key as a login and password."

Is this supported? I've either received no response or "I don't knows" from every other host I've contacted. I'm hoping Host Gator will be "the one".

Thanks!
Sarah

Here's what I run:
4 domains with 6 subdomains (these are required for proper 301 forwarding)
I will eventually add 2 more domains once my other hosting expires.
I have 3 wordpress blogs, and 2 phpbb forums. The main problem is 1 of the wordpress blogs- it is running as a large feed aggregator. It aggregates over 300 blogs and my traffic is steadily growing.
Here's a link to my SQL analysis- please advise me what is the best plan to serve my needs.

Upgrade my Baby croc to Reseller and free my self of the transfer hassles. The downside is, I am using the the xyz-abc.COM which has a pretty good traffic and I don't want my readers to see a webhosting page instead of the usual article pages. If xyz-abc.COM will lost its traffic, money will be gone and it's all over.

Create a new Reseller account, preferably the aluminum package and used my existing "sitting-on-the-corner" domain xyz-abc.NET. The downside is, I will have two accounts in HG, one for Baby xyz-abc.COM and the other one is the new Reseller xyz-abc.NET which means I am going to pay two accounts. But since the other acount is a reseller, I can host xyz-abc.COM to Reseller... BUT I do the transfer of files and database myself, and I am not that techie to do that.

Hi there,

I'm about to sign up with Host Gator after a very long time with another host. In signing up with Host Gator, I expect to be using Wordpress for the first time and presumably using Fantastico to install it.

My question is this: On my old website from which I am upgrading, I have two blogs: one with news from my career and one with information about my running. I used to keep these blogs separate using an old version of Movable Type.

I understand that Wordpress doesn't support multiple blogs, at least on the surface. I'm wondering if I can have multiple instances of Wordpress in my Host Gator account. If so, how would I go about doing this?

Thanks for any pre-sales answers you may have. I expect to be signing up sometime within the week.

Cheers,

I have various domains registered (and parked) with GoDaddy. I’m thinking of hosting websites for these domains at Hostgator (mostly for Wordpress blogs).

Before I sign up with Hostgator with a “baby” webhosting package I’m checking that I can easily achieve the following:

I want to leave my domains hosted at GoDaddy and I want to continue to manage DNS for these domains at GoDaddy (through their Total DNS Control).

I just want my websites/blogs hosted at Hostgator.

My internet mail for all the domains will continue to be hosted at Tuffmail. (My MX DNS entries point to Tuffmail servers)

As a relative “newbie” in DNS terms my first stab at a “logical” solution would involve setting up relevant “A” Type records in GoDaddy’s Total DNS Control to point to a relevant webserver IP address at Hostgator. This could theoretically include “A” Type records for www, @, blank, wildcard, ftp etc. To keep my domains hosted at GoDaddy and keep DNS control at GoDaddy I would leave the Nameserver entries unchanged.

It seems life may not be that simple. Checking what others have done in an extensive Google search (results include posts and tutorials on both Hostgator and GoDaddy forums) reveals much confusion for the novice here. At first sight I’m getting what appears to be conflicting advice on the DNS changes required with 3 different solutions.

SOLUTION 1

Some posts (including posts on Hostgator forums) insist that the two published Hostgator Nameservers MUST replace the existing Nameservers in GoDaddy Total DNS Control. I’m not too keen on having the same domain and website host and I’d clearly lose some flexibility here (I accept that I’d need to go back to GoDaddy to change any DNS entries rather than use relevant CPanel functionality)..

SOLUTION 2

Some posts say that, in addition to Solution 1 above, the A record(s) (e.g. for www, @ or blank) need pointing to a static (shared) IP address at Hostgator.

SOLUTION 3

Some posts (including registered Hostgator users) say that the Nameserver entries at the domain host (in my case GoDaddy) need NOT be changed to point to Hostgator Nameservers at all, as long as the “A” records are pointed to the correct Hostgator IP address (but that this solution will sometimes only work with direct assistance and tweaking from Hostgator support staff). This would be my preferred scenario if someone will confirm it works.

My requirement is clearly not that unusual, so I’d be really grateful for any clarification on what works and what doesn’t.

Hi,

I'm still getting the hang of working in cpanel, and I'm trying to figure out the best practice for replacing a web site with a new one.

I have a couple of older web sites that I've been redeveloping by working within a new folder in the main site's web root with a subdomain pointed at the new folder (like new.website.com).

The trick is, what's the best way in cpanel to launch the new site? In retrospect, it would've been better I guess to set up an actual account in WHM for the new.website.com, but I'm used to working with Windows servers where I would just go into IIS and change the site properties to use the new site's sub-folder as the root for the domain and the new site would be live instantly.

Cpanel doesn't seem to have an option for changing the default directory of a site, so I'm a little stuck.

What do more seasoned cpanel veterans do for a seamless transition? If you do set-up a new account in WHM for the new site, how do eventually point the main domain over to the new site without any downtime (I use my own DNS, which may simplify or complicate that) or confusion?

Thanks.
