Thumbs up A+ Experience

I have been a customer with hostgator for several months now. Although there has been some downtime, they have always responded as to why that downtime occured and worked quickly to resolve their issue. They did have a data loss due to a fire awhile back which was disappointing since I run a site based primarily on forums. So we lost several thousand posts. However, it was very clear that they were just as unhappy about the loss and so we all just took it in stride.

I have gone through many different hosts in the time my site has been up (since 11/24/02) and have been disappointed and even robbed of many hundreds of dollars from other hosts. After our last experience where we paid for a years worth of service upfront only to have nothing but problems and downtime and then being denied a refund, we decided to research our next host prospect to death. What I found was nothing but good reviews of hostgator. Those who posted negative things, came back to say that it had either been resolved or a misunderstanding on their part (usually a DNS or setup issue).

If anyone is reading this and is considering switching or even just getting a host for the first time, I fully stand behind hostgator. These are REAL people who obviously know their sh*t and are willing to work hard to make YOU happy. Definitely two thumbs up!

Angel you got your information mixed up. There was a fire in our datacenter (nac) months ago but the fire wasn't what caused the downtime itself.

The fire was caused by a UPS blowing up on the other side of the building a couple floors up. There would have been zero downtime if the fire department hadn't ordered all power to the datacenter cut as a safety precaution. The actual fire was put out by their FM-200 fire suppressant system within a few seconds.

The total downtime from that issue was less then a hour no servers were physically harmed, and no data was lost.

The data loss you’re referring to was from when the server you’re on had a hard drive failure. We restored everyone from the backup drive, and everyone was up and running in about a hours time. Out of the 23+ servers we have the one you were on was the first and only hard drive failure we have ever had in the year + of time in business. A few days worth of information was lost when transferring the backup drive to the main drive. In both the fire incident and the hard drive incident many people took advantage of our 99.9 uptime guarantee and received full refunds for the month.

No datacenter is perfect and we are very lucky to be in NAC. They are by far one of the best datacenters in the world, and that is why we chose them.

Thanks for the kind review as well!

Ah, so sorry for my mistake. Thanks for clarifying that.

We didn't try to get a refund because every time we've tried in the past (w/ other hosts) they have danced circles around us and gave one excuse or another as to why we didn't qualify. For future reference, should something like this happen again, how do I go about requesting a refund for that month? I'm sure it's too late to do anything about the lost uptime in these past two cases. TIA
