Awstats provides the ability to exclude specified IPs from being logged in the stat engine.
To accomplish this, Awstats' site notes: You must edit the config file to change the SkipHosts parameter. For example, to exclude: your own IP address 123.123.123.123, use SkipHosts="123.123.123.123" the whole subnet 123.123.123.xxx, use SkipHosts="REGEX[^123\.123\.123\.]" all sub hosts xxx.myintranet.com, use SkipHosts="REGEX[\.myintranet\.com$]" (This one works only if DNS lookup is already done in your log file). Where is the Awstats config file on shared hosting??? |

The config files are in /tmp/awstats in your home folder. You will also need to change the permissions on it to prevent cPanel from overwriting your changes when it runs. Changing permissions to 444 should work.

I've looked until my eyes bled almost, and for the life of me I cannot find where to update the permissions so that my changes aren't removed by cPanel. Can anyone help with this?

You can change the permissions using an FTP program or using the File Manager in cPanel. Right click on the file name and you should have an option to change the permissions.

Ok, I went to change the permissions, they are set to 644 now, but for some reason it will not let me change it to 444. I can highlight the number, but not input a new value.

How are you trying to change it? In the File Manager or FTP program? If you are using the File Manager try clicking on the check boxes rather than typing in the numbers.

I was using Cpanel, and that worked. Thanks again Rick. I would have never done that, thought it was my browser messing with cPanel lol.

Yeah, that's a File Manager bug that has been there for years.

Now after I have done this, should it take out the current stats it has for those IPs? Or does it take a while for the change to go into effect?

No, once the stats are created they are saved to a file. That information will not change. Future stats runs will omit your IP if you have it listed in the config file to be ignored.

I want to exclude multiple IP addresses, is the below correct for three different addresses?
SkipHosts="56.77.212.66 89.53.222.50 99.209.87.127" I have the line above in my.conf file but I'm definitely geting stats for the last ip address. |
