Ok. My site is finished, but I'm still doing a few last minute things BEFORE I start promoting it. So, this morning I wake up, get on my computer, and see I've made a sale. Huh??? How is that even possible? I haven't submitted my site to any search engines yet or anything. I haven't given out my website in my emails. I can't figure it out.
I went into my web stats page from the c-panel. It says I've had nearly 6,000 hits so far this month. WHAT??? Can that be true? Am I reading this right? I expect my site to do well, but not BEFORE I get it into the search engines and really start promoting it. Can anyone give me any clue as to what is going on here? I'm really confused. Also, according to the webstats, I've had 42 unique visitors, which sounds more like it, but really there should only be about four or five. How can anyone find a website with no meta tags that hasn't been submitted to the search engines? I'm thankful for the sale I made, but I'm really curious how they found me. The only referral listed on the latest visitors page is my own website. Kim |

I'd install google analytics-- it's free, and far more accurate than what you see there.

The search engines probably already found the site on their own -- regardless of whether you wanted them to or not.
Follow Matt's instructions above and you'll be even happier! |

You will probalbly find there were a lot of hits from people in these forums, and search engines found your site via the link in a post here.

I've followed your saga from the beginning, but I can't find the actual current site address - just the screen shots of the template you were considering.
What's the address? |

eLiant: Follow the link Sam gave you and you can go see my site. Drop me an email through my contact us page and let me know what you think! Or you can just tell me here if you would rather. I'd love to get some feedback on it.
slapshot: Thanks. I will go and sign up for google analytics as soon as I am finished here! I appreciate your helpful information. kmaw: I think you're right. I haven't submitted the site yet, but if you type my business name in with quotes it comes up. I'm still not sure how I made that sale though. I'm sure that lady probably had never heard of my business. I wish I knew what she typed into the search engines to find me, or what website she found me through. sam: I'm sure that's true, but 6000 hits is a lot and April isn't even over yet! Now I just need to turn all those hits into sales! ![]() Well, now I'm off to google to sign up for the analytics thing, and then I'm going over to wordtracker for another long session of trying to find good keywords to use. I bought a week on there and I want to make the most of it. When the week is over, my keywords will be done (they will, because I'm not buying another week!), and then I'm going to start promoting my business both online and off. The work never ends, but at least the website is finally done! Kim |
