Every so often I get an error message stating the following message:
Warning: mysql_connect(): .... Today the message was Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111) .... This error comes to me via email when mysql_connect() fails during the running of a cronjob. This above error was received at 12:00pm CT today. All times are Central Time: Sept 18 12:14pm - mysql_connect(): Lost connection to MySQL server during query ... Sept 13 7:20pm - mysql_connect(): Too many connections ... (there were a number of errors between 6:45pm and 7:20 pm when I decided to turn off the cronjob) Aug 30 10:30pm - mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) ... Aug 25 6:30pm - mysql_connect(): Too many connections ... (there were a number of errors between 6:30pm and 8:10pm when I again had to turn off the cronjob) Aug 23 6:26pm - mysql_connect(): Lost connection to MySQL server during query... Aug 21 1:41am - mysql_connect(): Lost connection to MySQL server during query... Aug 13 Aug 12 4:52pm - 10:57pm Aug 2 Can someone look into why mysql seems to be running out of resources. I have been told by technical support that I should limit my mysql connections, but what do I do when I have zero connections active when these problems occur. Are other users exploiting the available connections on the server thus limiting normal users on that server from normal service? Ryan |

Ryan, we had some problems on the Escape server earlier, but I believe it has been fixed as of now. Are you still seeing this error message?

Was it solved for you Ryan?
I am trying to connect to mysql (this is the first time I'm trying my mysql script in HG) and I'm getting this bizzare message ... Code:
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server during query in /home/user/public_html/admin/connect.php on line 5 Lost connection to MySQL server during query Code:
$db=mysql_connect($database_server,$database_username,$database_password) or die("Error : ".mysql_error());

The problem was not solved to our satisfaction after allowing HostGator a few opportunities to solve the problem. We have since moved all but one site off HostGator to the company they gets their servers from, The Planet.

Hmm .. the issue seems to be serious ... but what I wonder is can thePlanet solve the issue if HG can't, after all, HGs supports are thePlanet's support. Whenever something big happens, it's the Planet guys who look after the clients of HG, and not HG's own techies.
Here's a link I just found > http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=11897. Again, HG is having hundreds of clients, and 99% of people are using mysql today ... how this is not an issue for them! About thePlanet, well, if you are good enough to manage a server yourself, of course that's much cheaper for the same hardware, and same top level support. I think what HG is having in extra (for the extra money of course), is their good level 3 support. I have found them pretty efficient (when they can).
