There was a reseller with 100+ accounts who started running SEO mysql on all the sites today crashing the server. We currently have those services shut down so that we may suspend all his accounts. With them on the load is so high the server will not do anything because of his usage.
It is about halfway through and will be a little while before it completes due to the amount of accounts. I was able to read up on it and figure out what is going on with this. many of the sites having problems have 10,000+ pages or more. When sites are spidered this means every page requested goes through the database engine. This huge amount of mysql usage simultaneously eats all of the servers ram causing it to go into swap, which makes the disks become extremely busy which = load to go into 100's while it tries to get out of swap.

At least the web sites are still running. I hope one of my clients does not notice this downtime. They are very concerned about any email issue that comes up. (lost emails, blocked emails, etc).
Hopefully it will be up soon! Thanks |

So with the services being down will all the email sent during this time be lost? I am not getting any email in but I know that I should have received some during the downtime. In fact, I just sent myself an email and it has not come in.
Also I noticed that the server load and memory used is at a warning state. Thanks |

We tried something different that was a big mistake. We changed the permissions on all of the rss databases so they would not work. This caused the spiders hitting them to go nuts taking the server load up to 100's
May have to suspend all his accounts to

Looks like there are still issues. Sites are running slow, email is bogging down a lot and the server status keeps showing problems.
But I am sure you know all about this! Thanks |

Hi,
I only just joined HostGator last week, and all my seven sites I have hosted with you went dead this afternoon for a short while. The sites are back, but Mail is still flaky, though. I'm not receiving any mail at all on any domains. As klouda did, I have sent myself mail from other accounts and nothing is showing up. I'm hoping, too, that incoming emails won't be just lost. I'm concerned, not primarily for myself, but for my clients. Any more info you can provide on the situation would be most gratefully received. Thanks Edited to add: I contacted Support by email and was told there had been a problem with the exim mail daemon. EMail looks to be trickling through now - getting some emails from 4-6 hours back, so fingers crossed nothing was lost or bounced during the downtime. Thanks HG Support for the quick response and fix!

Some of the email that was sent (just some) has come in finally.
I do have one client that can not bring up their website from their home at all. Maybe a DNS error. Is there any way to check this? I am not that familiar with DNS issues to know where and how to check to see if there are issues. Thanks |
